Who you are
- A strong, deeply technical Software Engineer with a strong user-empathy mindset for engineers. You should have experience building great products - for either internal or external users - designed to help engineers get their work done quickly
- Minimum 3+ years of engineering experience or equivalent combined work experience reflecting domain expertise
- Demonstrated ability in building tools for engineers or equivalent technical roles
- Strong demonstrated ability to use a variety of data sources (metrics, telemetry, user interviews) to identify opportunities to improve the productivity of software engineers - either as external or internal users
- Demonstrated ability to balance execution and velocity with security, reliability, and efficiency. Experience working with cross functional teams (compliance, security) to evaluate feature work against vital risk primitives
- Experience, mentoring, and investing in the development of engineers and peers
Desirable
- 5+ years of engineering experience or equivalent combined work experience reflecting domain expertise, specifically in Source Control systems, automation or tooling
- Deep familiarity with git, source control systems, source control APIs, mechanics around monorepos and various ‘glue’ that makes an engineering system tick
- Experience working with source control or other foundational systems in the context of a high-security environment with extensive security controls
- Demonstrated ability to jump up and down the stack, from frontend UI problems to fidgety infrastructure challenges
- Experience with user research and interviews
- Ability to give input to team norms and rhythm of business to help teammates move quickly
What the job involves
- You’ll be responsible for planning, building and validating high impact projects to improve the foundations of Stripe’s Developer Productivity story
- You’ll be working across the stack to address core infrastructure challenges and dive deep into user pain to figure out the best experience we can build for our peers. You’ll be expected to work with our internal users, the rest of the team, partner teams and vendors to drive continuous improvement of our engineering experience
- Design and build infrastructure, tools and interfaces for interacting with source control and reviews at Stripe and enabling other Stripes to do their best work
- Work directly with users to design and iterate on tooling to unblock and improve the speed of feature development
- Work with Security and Compliance partners to ensure our code review processes maintain a high bar for auditability and security
- Collaborate with other Developer Productivity engineers to build cross-cutting infrastructure to help our CI and source control infrastructure scale
- Design, build and maintain local tools and distributed infrastructure to scale to Stripe’s needs

Stripe, nowadays a FinTech giant, spent the first few years since its founding building up its payments business, which primarily consisted of providing an API to eCommerce businesses so that they could easily integrate a payment option in their apps or websites, where before there was none.
More recently, Stripe has started to accelerate its growth with a significantly larger range of financial services including cash advances and credit cards. They also plan to build incorporation services, fraud protection, and more, diversifying its revenue away from payments and differentiating itself from its competitors.
To further expand its position, the company is extending its services to countries with vast customer potential, including Brazil, Japan and India. It is also partnering with OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT - a win-win collaboration that is monetising OpenAI’s flagship products and at the same time enhancing Stripe with GPT-4, as it moves forward with intentions to "build the payments foundation for tomorrow's AI economy."
