Role
Who you are
- Have a strong appetite for the unfamiliar; that includes technical content as well as solving problems our customers face
- Believe that being helpful and humble are just as important as technical know-how
- Can teach the things you know well, and acknowledge what you can learn from others
- 5+ years of professional software development experience, preferably in a SaaS or IoT environment
- Experience designing distributed and highly-available systems, weighing trade-offs, and guiding others through implementation
- Fluency with:
- One or more object-oriented languages (Python preferred)
- Relational databases; performance tuning, sharding
- Distributed systems; containerization, message queues, parallelism
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Experience working in an early-stage, growing company
Desirable
- Knowledge of DevOps tooling and practices (CI/CD, Monitoring)
- Experience deploying infrastructure (Infrastructure-as-code, cloudformation, ansible)

- This is a remote-friendly role with the option to work from our Chicago or San Francisco offices

- We’re growing our engineering team and we’re looking for Senior Full Stack Engineers to continue building our customer-facing and internal products
- Working as a full-stack engineer at Amper means working in a wide variety of contexts. We build large APIs as well as microservices
- We write a lot of Python. Our front ends are largely React alongside some third party tools
- We need to build for the web and for mobile
- Sometimes we’re working through the challenges of distributed systems, sometimes we’re tuning a single database query because we need that extra bit of performance
- Being a Senior Software Engineer at Amper also means being a “product person.”

Our take
Global supply chain constraints have only accentuated the pressure on manufacturing shop floor managers to avoid every possible minute of downtime. That pressure to avoid losing money has driven demand for real-time analytics of manufacturing machinery, which Amper hopes to help with.
Amper’s IoT technology enables a self-installed industrial monitoring solution for manufacturing managers. The company prioritizes ease-of-use for its customers, allowing them to set up their devices in minutes and monitor their machines from an intuitive dashboard. The vision for the startup is to go beyond the monitoring of relatively basic machinery metrics and build out a holistic IoT-based ‘FactoryOS’.
The challenge for the startup will be competing in a crowded IoT market. Having said that, its proven ability to quickly adjust its strategy has helped it gain solid funding. The fact that Amper's technology shifts to fit the real needs of its customers will surely stand it in good stead as it expands its horizons.
