Role
Who you are
- A degree in computer science, games development or equivalent
- Minimum of 2 years commercial games programming experience
- A high level of proficiency with C++
- Solid experience with Unreal 4/5
- Excellent math
- Proven problem-solving ability
- Broad familiarity with AI in game development is required
- You would also have experience of developing modern character AI systems
- Experience of pathfinding, steering, and motion planning
- State machines and behaviour trees
- Implementing cooperation and group behaviours
- Experience of working within a team
- A real passion for games programming
What the job involves
- We are looking for a deeply talented, fully remote A.I. Programmer to help us generate the best open world experiences in our games and push the limits of Artificial intelligence in areas such as pathfinding, combat, and decision-making
- Work with existing engine code base to develop and improve AI
- Develop AI / game code as well as tools and extend it for high profile projects
- Specify and contribute to testing procedures
- Integrate creative and technical design processes while ensuring that high production values are never compromised

Climax Studios, based in Portsmouth, is not one of these companies, having been founded back in 1988. Its acquisition by the American developer Keyword Studios in 2021 though, exemplifies how larger companies from overseas are shining a light on the burgeoning British market.
As a VR and AR developer, Climax Studios has been a major player in British video game development for more than three decades, with client publishers including Microsoft, 2K, and EA. Its 2021 acquisition was worth more than $40 million and has helped Climax expand its team and buffer it against the smaller companies growing out of the UK.
Climax Studio’s focus on next-gen consoles and technology is most likely one of the key reasons for its acquisition. With 2022 seeing them focus on AA and AAA standard games, Climax is well equipped to keep afloat amidst the revitalised British developer market.
