Role
Who you are
- 2-3+ years of experience in community management or related field
- Proven track record of developing and growing online communities
- Ability to think outside the box and come up with creative community initiatives
- Experience leading and managing other community professionals
- Strong understanding of content strategy and its impact on community growth
- Excellent communication skills and ability to adapt tone for different audiences
- Demonstrated ability to moderate sensitive situations and conflicts between users professionally and effectively
- Comfortable making data-driven decisions and regularly reporting on community metrics
- Passion for improving user experience and fostering loyal audiences
- Familiarity with BuzzFeed's brand voice and community culture
- Experience with subscription or membership-based programs is a plus!

- BuzzFeed is looking for a full-time, remote Community Manager to join our team and help cultivate a loyal, thriving community of users
- As our Community Manager, you'll be the bridge between BuzzFeed and our amazing users
- You'll create spaces where the BuzzFeed Community can flourish, both on and off our platform
- We're looking for someone who can bring positive vibes, creative ideas, and a deep understanding of what makes online communities tick
- Actively solicit and implement feedback from community members to improve user experience
- Develop and execute content strategies to grow and engage our community
- Build and manage community spaces outside of BuzzFeed's main platform
- Create and scale up incentivization programs for community users
- Market community content and tools to increase engagement and retention
- Interact directly with users to foster a sense of belonging and improve their experience
- Track and report on community health metrics, with a focus on loyalty and engagement
- Collaborate cross-functionally with tech, legal, PR, and social teams
Our take
BuzzFeed is an international media company reaching hundreds of millions of readers each month. The company started life as a platform for viral media, and quickly became known for its online quizzes, listicles, and pop culture articles. At its height, the platform received over 1 billion page views each month.
In 2011, the company launched BuzzFeed News, which won multiple accolades including the National Magazine Award and the George Polk Award before the 2023 announcement it would be shutting down. The closure of its News arm comes alongside similar troubles amongst its online news peers, and has been spurred along by a tough economy, a declining stock market, a slowdown in digital advertising, and changing audience habits.
Despite this considerable blow to its operations, BuzzFeed will continue its presence across YouTube, podcasting and other content, with hopes it will bounce back in the upcoming years. Interestingly, it was announced that HuffPost - which the company bought in 2020 - will continue to publish news as it remains profitable.
