Who you are
- If you have a passion for sustainable technology and a solid foundation in building automation, we want to hear from you
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in sales or technical support within the HVAC controls and building automation industry
- Solid understanding of HVAC systems, building automation systems (BAS), and control strategies
- Familiarity with integration protocols (e.g., BACnet, Modbus)
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with clients and partners
- Proficiency in CRM software
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, or related field) or a related technical field
- Willingness to travel within the Northeast region as needed
- An eagerness to learn, and a passion for sustainable technologies
What the job involves
- We're seeking a motivated Business Development Manager, HVAC to join our team and drive growth in the Northeast region
- In this role, you'll play a vital part in introducing our innovative heat pump technology to commercial clients across the Northeast. You'll leverage your technical knowledge and sales skills to build relationships, identify opportunities, and contribute to a greener future
- Sales & Business Development: Identify and pursue sales opportunities within the commercial building sector, focusing on HVAC and building automation systems (BAS)
- Technical Consultation: Provide technical support and product knowledge to clients, explaining the benefits of Gradient's heat pump technology and its integration with building control systems
- Relationship Building: Develop and maintain strong relationships with engineers, contractors, and facility managers in the Northeast market
- Project Support: Collaborate with internal teams to support project execution, including site surveys, proposal development, and technical presentations
- Market Research: Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes in the Northeast's HVAC controls market
- Channel Partner Support: Assist in building and supporting relationships with channel partners, including system integrators and controls specialists
- Rebate and Incentive Program Awareness: Learn and utilize knowledge of Northeast state and utility rebate programs to support sales efforts
- CRM Management: Maintain accurate records of sales activities and customer interactions in our CRM system
Our take
The heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) industry hasn’t really undergone much innovation in the last few decades. However with increasing awareness of climate change and growing regulations in this space, action is necessary to reduce the environmental damage caused by the increasing use of HVAC systems worldwide.
To solve this problem, Gradient has developed a hybrid air conditioner and room heater which reduces the carbon produced by as much as 95% when used to both heat and cool. It’s not the only company working on more environmentally friendly HVAC solutions, but what sets Gradient apart is that its window lodged device is much cheaper and easier to install as well as being quieter, and much less obtrusive than the average AC unit.
The company has attracted a large amount of investment, most recently in 2023 closing a Series A round which was co-led by Sustainable Future Ventures and Ajax Strategies. It is using this funding to develop new products, add further IoT functionality to its devices and increase its headcount. Gradient's environmentally friendly approach to heating and cooling puts it in a good position to capture a large share of the estimated $100 billion market for HVAC products.
