What the job involves
- Platform Engineering is the department within SRE that is responsible for a range of critical infrastructure and operational functions that support the broader engineering organization
- Among these are our multi-cloud-provider Kubernetes infrastructure, networking, load balancing (including our public-facing edge and internal service mesh), and observability and alerting systems
- The Deployments team designs and maintains continuous delivery infrastructure to ensure reliable code deployment from dev up through prod for all of engineering (this infrastructure is composed primarily of Argo Workflows and ArgoCD)
- They provide the tooling that enables clear ownership of systems and facilitates self-service onboarding by development teams
- Lead a team of engineers, including creating a positive culture, handling career growth and performance conversations, and proactively setting direction and removing blockers for the team
- Help develop a world-class continuous deployment experience that allows us to quickly ship MongoDB products in a reliable manner
- Own the onboarding flow other engineering teams follow when launching a new product or service
- Collaborate with various other teams within the Platform Engineering organization to ensure a consistent service-onboarding experience
- Provide internal support for our deployment systems, answering questions and addressing technical issues as they arise
- Participate in a 24/7 on-call rotation to handle issues involving the deployment infrastructure

Essentially, the company develops tools and blueprints to help businesses and organisations modernise their legacy applications, migrating them to the MongoDB database and the MongoDB Atlas cloud database. With this initiative, MongoDB is particularly taking aim at Oracle customers with ageing applications running on the Oracle relational database system.

It is also the fastest-growing database ecosystem, and boasts hundreds of millions of downloads. Recently, the company announced a partnership with Patronus AI, an automated evaluation and security platform, through which it will bring automated LLM evaluation and testing capabilities to enterprise customers.
