Role
Who you are
- Degree in a Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics or Finance/Economics fields from an accredited institution or equivalent academic background
- Advanced complex financial modelling and data querying skills (experience with SQL and/or BI tools such as Looker would be an advantage, but not mandatory)
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills, with excellent problem-solving abilities in the face of ambiguity
- Experience influencing stakeholders at senior levels
- 3+ years of relevant experience in a strategic or commercial role (would suit someone who has experience working in banking/ private equity/ consulting, or for a high growth tech finance team)
- Someone who thrives in a start-up environment, is passionate and inquisitive
- A problem solver who is creative and able to think from first principles when required
- An individual who can operate in a fast-growing business, comfortable with ambiguity and able to strike a balance between speed and accuracy
- A great communicator who can effectively articulate findings
What the job involves
- The Strategic Finance team’s core mission is to help Zilch make effective decisions, with the aim of building long term customer and company value.
- We achieve this by steering the company strategy and both understanding and sharing the drivers of our business, all while managing risks and keeping an eye out for opportunities
- We work with teams across the business to answer key questions that are often ambiguous in nature
- Partner with teams across the business to identify and drive short to medium term actions that support the delivery of our overall business strategy and any growth opportunities
- Become a subject matter expert for a particular domain and influence the underlying drivers of business performance
- Scenario modelling and business casing for a broad range of initiatives and layering this into business planning
- Synthesise your findings into narratives with tangible and quantified business recommendations and go-to-market strategies
- Track the implementation of these recommendations to maximise the impact to the business
- Present your insights and recommendations to key stakeholders including C-suite
- Grapple with trade-offs across the business, helping to guide effective use of capital

Zilch provides a buy-now-pay-later (BNPL) product that allows customers to purchase their desired items and pay in instalments for them. According to Zilch, its service helps customers save over £350 per year on interest and fees.
Having received consumer credit authorisation from the FCA, Zilch partnered with Mastercard to ensure its users can enjoy the safety provided by the global payments company while shopping online. Its business model involves providing the service for free to customers and charging partner stores a fee for every purchase made with Zilch. If users are not buying from partner stores, Zilch charges users a fee but guarantees that they will know from the beginning exactly how much they need to repay, hence assuring users they will not have to pay hidden fees.
With soaring demand for BNPL services, Zilch's main priority is to capitalise on this opportunity. As part of this initiative, the company has maintained an impressive funding strategy. After a series of successful raises, Zilch is now valued at around $2 billion. This has lent the company considerable weight, helping to accelerate its expansion of efforts in existing markets and expand into new ones such as the US.
