Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field, or the equivalent
- 2–3+ years of experience in software development
- Experience with Python or a similar language
- Experience shipping backend systems and APIs powering consumer-facing features and the ability to speak to how you balanced technical constraints with user experience decisions
- The ability to weigh trade-offs clearly and explain technical decisions to stakeholders
- A product mindset, caring about what your systems enable, not just the systems themselves
- Eagerness to take on new problems and grow your technical, collaboration, and leadership skills

What the job involves
- The Creator World team is shaping the core experiences making Patreon the best place for creators to connect with all of their fans and share their creative work
- Our work spans a wide range of creator and fan-facing experiences including creator pages and vertical-specific tools. We're a tight-knit, fast-moving, and high-ownership team. We ship often, sweat the details, and aren't afraid of an ambitious roadmap
- We're looking for a fullstack engineer to help develop the systems and APIs that will power future user-facing features. In any given week you might be asked to:
- Design and build new backend systems and APIs for user-facing features
- Evolve and scale existing systems that creators and fans already rely on
- Investigate and resolve issues affecting user experience
- Partner with client engineers on the contracts between your services and their code
- Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, designers, and other engineers
- Step into adjacent parts of the stack (frontend, infra, data) when necessary
Our take
Creatives face two major struggles in the online space: getting eyes (or ears) on their work, and getting paid for it. Patreon was founded to solve both problems with a platform that would provide a space for creators to host and promote their work, and offer supporters a way to show their support through a regular paid subscription.
Patreon has been a leader in the content subscription space since its founding, but recently has come under pressure from newer rivals such as Substack and Ko-fi. It has maintained its position by shifting its focus from being primarily a marketplace for supporters to find creatives that interest them to being a toolbox for content creators to promote their work. While the site's creatives value this approach it remains to be seen whether Patreon will be able to return to the growth it was enjoying in previous years.
Despite the inroads made by competitors and a troubling global economic outlook making finances tougher for content creators and their supporters, Patreon is still a leader in its space, with over 250,000 active creators having made $3.5B through the platform.
