Who you are
- We are looking for product managers who bring exceptional creative, strategic, and analytical skills to drive forward a best in class product
- 5+ years in product management experience with significant time spent leading consumer facing products, with a strong foundation in Trust & Safety preferred
- Natural leadership and ability to make things happen. You manage project ambiguity, complexity, and interdependencies in an organized and structured way, and you are able to define and analyze metrics that inform the success of your products
- Excellent judgment and thoughtfulness about the dynamics of the product ecosystem
- Strong communication skills and intuition for communication strategy at every level -- within teams, within the company, to users, and other audiences
- Ability to conceptualize, prioritize and lead multiple projects for stakeholders
- Detail oriented with superior organizational skills -- balancing multiple projects, deadlines, and requests should be second nature to you
What the job involves
- Product management at Lyft leads the integration of engineering, data science, and design to achieve the company’s vision for reinventing transportation
- The focus for the Community Trust & Safety team is making riders and drivers feel safe and comfortable while riding or driving with Lyft and ensuring that our riders and drivers make it safely to their destination every time
- From prevention to intervention and accountability, the Community Safety team ensures that the Lyft community continues to be trusted and inclusive
- Within this team, we’re hiring a PM to own building product solutions to promote both rider and driver safety throughout the entire Lyft rideshare experience
- Understand Lyft's strategic and competitive position and stay current on Trust & Safety products and innovations across the industry
- Set an ambitious product vision that motivates and inspires your team, peers and leadership and delivers on this vision by setting your team's goals, success metrics and roadmap and collaborating extremely effectively across the company
- Build a product roadmap to achieve your goals and lead a core team of engineers, designers, data scientists, and marketers to execute on it
- Deeply understand the needs and motivations of your customers across different rider & driver segments and use cases
- Completely own your team’s products – existing or new – from ideation, through development, launch, growth, and maintenance
- Clearly communicate roadmaps, priorities, experiments, and decisions across a wide spectrum of audiences from partner teams to executive levels
- This role will be in-office on a hybrid schedule — Team Members will be expected to work in the office 3 days per week on Mondays, Thursdays and a team-specific third day. Additionally, hybrid roles have the flexibility to work from anywhere for up to 4 weeks per year
Our take
Lyft has aimed for consistent growth, making sure to pitch itself as a more reliable and friendly ride-sharing option than its main competitor, Uber. Uber has a greater market share and operates globally, but Lyft hopes to compete by its focus on ride-sharing over Uber's more diversified business approach and as a more rider-friendly and greener alternative to Uber.
Operating only in the USA and Canada, Lyft is in a position of being less affected by global events than Uber but also more vulnerable to local conditions. As an example, while it doesn't face the regulatory hurdles around employment rights that Uber does, it is unable to balance out the cost of the unusually expensive US auto insurance across its operations.
In 2022, Lyft acquired PBSC Urban Solutions, a bike-share equipment and technology supplier, allowing Lyft to compete in new verticals and reaffirming its commitment to green transportation. It has also trialled and launched Lyft Assisted, where drivers help passengers from their door into the car to get to medical appointments. These developments chime well with Lyft's unique selling point as a friendlier and more environmentally aware ride-sharing app, whilst the acquisition of European competitor Freenow could add 6 million new riders to its platform in 2026.
