Who you are
- Demonstrate an advanced knowledge in networking, network security, including experience with complex firewall configurations (upgrading & patching, layer 7 policy management, object organization,configuring templates, and tagging standards), VPN's, Web Proxies, Network Antivirus, IDS/IPS, and enterprise routing and switching
- Demonstrate superior proficiency in configuring and troubleshooting various firewall technologies
- Have proficient experience with enterprise network design, implementation, and network operations monitoring and triage
- Can maintain and create competent technical documentation and create and follow documented procedures
- Obtain and/or are willing to maintain industry relevant professional level certifications as applicable (e.g. CISSP, CRISC, Palo Alto PCNSE, Cisco CCNA, Fortinet NSE, etc.)
- Demonstrate an superior proficiency in the understanding of network communication protocols (such as DNS, HTTP/S, NTP, ARP, SSH, SMTP, SNMP, etc.), OSI model triage, security protocol functionality and idiosyncrasies, and advanced network and security nomenclature enabling identification of root causes for illusive and complex problems
- Have advanced experience in and understanding of IP Addressing, Subnetting and Supernetting (IPv4)
- Possess advanced experience implementing and troubleshooting HA firewall clusters
- Possess expert level understanding of IPsec VPNs, certificates, tokens, and API’s as well as real world implementation and troubleshooting experience
- Demonstrate a advanced understanding of industry standard policies, regulations, and applicable compliance
- Must be familiar with risk calculations to translate vulnerabilities, configuration flaws, policy creation gaps, and over permissive policies, to likelihood and impact while correlating the risk to the acceptable risk tolerance of the customer
- Can demonstrate best practices in case management can translate customer request verbiage to applicable
- Have experience with ITIL Service Management and Agile Framework methodologies
- Strong documentation skills required
- Possess a high level of customer service and soft skills including: active listening and competent communication
What the job involves
- Reporting directly to the Manager, Network Security, the Network Security Engineer III will be responsible for the adherence of our customer’s next generation firewall environment to security best practices and policy governance
- Risk assessment of customer policies, configurations, and network topologies will be at the forefront of this role
- Additionally, you'll update and maintain policies, objects, interface configurations, and signatures, perform upgrades, and provide best in class security for customers while maintaining compliance with applicable regulations
- You may respond to continuously monitored customer environments ensuring maximum availability and acceptable risk tolerance documented by the customer
- The day shift engineer will be responsible for providing day coverage and will work Monday-Friday 6am EST- 3pm EST
- You will be part of a weekly on-call rotation and required to adhere to all change windows required by customers
- Serve as a tertiary tier technical escalation for customer’s next generation firewall solution(s) e.g. Palo Alto, Cisco, and/or Fortinet) providing recommendations and guidance on their implementation
- Analyze, prioritize, and remediate insecure hardening requirements and active or potential risks in the customer environments through policy governance and cleanup
- Mentor and provide “pro-tips” to other Network Security Engineers to enable world class operations and execution for the customer
- Execute on approved Policy Audit & Cleanup
- Engage with customer stakeholders for policy management consultation and dialogue
- Monitor and triage platform and network performance through health, netflow, and other required tooling including packet capture tools
- Serve as an escalation for all peer reviews to Network Security Engineer change control requests
- Effectively manage a wide variety of customer issues and requests via a priority based model
- Collaborate with the other Deepwatch experts to ensure that any incident's underlying problems are managed and resolved including potential emergency changes
- Participate in CAB as the Lead technical resource for the Network Security team
- Collaborate with vendors to ensure proper best practices are enforced and recommendations are delivered to customers
- Review and validate new releases for Hardware, Software, and firmware upgrades and patches for bugs which may impact customer environments or vulnerabilities for customer’s infrastructure
- Participate in a weekly on-call rotation and, as required, work outside of normal business hours to complete scheduled maintenance, outage response, incident response, and emergency change requests
- Collaborate with applicable vendors to ensure case management and customer escalation as needed or requested
- Attend focus groups, trainings, industry conferences, and skills enhancement opportunities, as applicable and approved through learning and development
