Who you are
- This role is ideal for engineers who are passionate about distributed systems, large-scale data processing, and tackling hardcore infrastructure challenges related to extreme throughput, millisecond latencies, and building highly resilient systems with near-zero downtime
- Education: B.S. in Computer Science or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience
- Fundamentals: Strong foundation in computer science fundamentals including programming, data structures, algorithms, and software application design
- Programming Skills: Solid programming skills in at least one modern language, with a preference for Java or Python
- Mindset: An eagerness to learn about distributed systems and large-scale data processing, coupled with a passion for solving challenging technical problems
Desirable
- Prior experience with distributed systems, ideally OLAP
- Familiarity with concurrency and multi-threading
- 1+ years of experience working in a Software Engineering role
What the job involves
- Amplitude is seeking a highly motivated and curious Software Engineer to join our data infrastructure teams (Query)
- Our mission is to be the operating system for digital business, providing powerful insights into customer behavior
- You will be contributing to the core platform that processes and integrates massive amounts of customer data—up to 2 trillion events per month—to power our analytics product
- You will work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment, using modern cloud technologies and engineering best practices
- Develop and Implement Features: Take product ideas from concept to implementation by contributing to backend services and data product features that expand the capabilities of our analytics platform
- Design Scalable Systems: Contribute to the design and building of systems that are reliable, performant, and scalable to handle our growing data volume and user needs
- Optimize Performance: check profile, do benchmark, optimize performance to the best
- Collaborate and Review: Actively participate in design discussions and code reviews to share knowledge and ensure high-quality, maintainable code
- Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with Product, Design, and other engineering teams to define strategy and deliver the best customer experience
- Learn Modern Technologies: Gain hands-on experience with modern technologies like Java, Python, Kubernetes, Redis/Elasticache, Amazon S3/DynamoDB, and Terraform

Amplitude provides product analytics to help companies understand user behaviour. Product, marketing, and growth teams use Amplitude to discover and share insights about user engagement, retention, and revenue.
Amplitude’s user flows reveal which actions are the most commonly taken after users sign up, and which usually precede purchases made in-app, creating paths through the app. The behaviour of individual app users can be viewed with unlimited real-time activity feeds and user timelines.
Thousands of companies use Amplitude analytics including Microsoft, Under Armour, Intuit, Twitter, Bonobos, Peloton, and many more. In 2024, a securities fraud case was filed against Amplitude due to an IPO and stock share rise that was alleged to be artificially inflated before their downturn in 2022. Whilst this case is ongoing, Amplitude is still releasing new products and operating at full capacity.
