Who you are
- The ideal candidate is an aspiring accounting professional who is eager to learn, possesses strong foundational tech skills, and thrives in a dynamic team setting
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (Junior standing preferred) with a minimum GPA of 3.3/4.0
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
- Knowledge of and experience using AI software tools to optimize workflows
- Exceptional organizational skills, sharp attention to detail, and a proactive mindset
- Ability to commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week (with flexibility up to 40 hours per week during normal business hours based on your class schedule)
What the job involves
- Metropolis is seeking a highly motivated, detail-oriented, and analytical Tax Intern to join our fast-paced and highly visible Tax Department
- In this year-long internship, you will get hands-on experience in a high-volume corporate environment that processes over $22MM a month in Sales, Use, and Parking taxes, alongside complex Partnership and Corporate Federal and State Tax Returns
- Assist with gathering financial information and preparing monthly sales, use, and parking tax returns; help set up structured workpapers for sales, use, and income tax returns
- Enter journal entries, assist in setting up and maintaining recurring entries, and prepare monthly account reconciliations while researching reconciling items
- Support the team by compiling critical information and documents required for sales/use and income tax audits
- Gain valuable, real-world exposure to State and Federal corporate income tax compliance
- Collaborate with the broader finance team on various strategic projects and initiatives as needed
- Ability to commit to a minimum of 20 hours per week (with flexibility up to 40 hours per week during normal business hours based on your class schedule)
