- Practical experience building CI/CD pipelines — GitHub Actions plus familiarity with CodeBuild/CodeDeploy or equivalents
- Good debugging and scripting skills (Bash, Python, or similar) and comfort with containers/Docker
- Familiarity with monitoring/observability tools (CloudWatch, X-Ray, or comparable) and writing meaningful alerts
- Solid understanding of networking basics (subnets, security groups, routing, NAT) and security principles
- Experience with incident response, postmortems and maintaining runbooks
- Nice to have: AWS certifications (eg. AWS Certified DevOps Engineer or Solutions Architect) and experience with cost optimisation and database ops for Aurora
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a senior-level DevOps Engineer to join and existing team who will be hands-on running and improving our AWS platform, supporting engineering teams, and helping make our systems more secure and reliable
- You’ll work primarily with Lambda, Fargate, Aurora, VPC and Security Hub, maintain IaC (Terraform, Serverless), and support CI/CD (GitHub Actions, CodeBuild/CodeDeploy)
- This is a practical, collaborative role — you’ll be solving day-to-day operational problems while helping plan and deliver longer-term improvements
- You'll operate and troubleshoot production and staging systems in AWS (Lambda, Fargate, Aurora, VPC)
- Maintain and improve CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and AWS CodeBuild/CodeDeploy
- Author and update Terraform and Serverless configs; review pull requests for infrastructure changes
- Respond to incidents, follow runbooks, participate in root-cause analysis and implement fixes
- Work with engineers to onboard services to the platform and provide practical guidance on deployments, observability and cost
- Implement security best practices: IAM hygiene, Security Hub findings, secrets management and least-privilege changes
- Build and tune monitoring, alerts, logging and tracing to reduce noise and catch real issues early
- Automate repetitive tasks (backups, health checks, tidyups) and keep runbooks and docs current

As the digital economy has grown, so too has the market for 'Banking-as-a-Service' - the process of ensuring the overall execution of financial services over the web. As businesses expand online, they have opportunities to be able to build and sell various financial services or add fintech features to their existing products. Railsr (formerly Railsbank) facilitates companies doing this easily, where it would previously have been a huge undertaking.
Essentially, Railsr is making financial services more inclusive. Previously, the complexities of legacy technology, managing global compliance and ancient bank processes have created a slow, complex and costly experience for customers. Now, through Railsr's Open Banking Platform and APIs, financial innovators have the means of creating the financial services, products and experiences their clients want.
In 2022, shortly after becoming Railsr, the company benefitted from the embedded finance boom and raised a large funding round to support its ongoing expansion efforts. Early in 2023, however, the company had to undertake an emergency sale and shift of control - though it seems to have remained positive throughout, citing the sale as a "pivotal moment" that will enable it to "rebuild momentum, drive change and return Railsr to growth."
