Role
Who you are
- Bring energy and drive to their work—enthusiasm and momentum matter

- Experience: 2-4 years of backend development
- Strong backend engineering experience with Python (required)—though if you know Java, Go, or another statically typed language that works too
- Building and consuming RESTful APIs (required); experience with frameworks like FastAPI, Flask, or Django and working on API-first products is a plus
- Understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems (required); exposure to AWS/cloud platforms, CI/CD pipelines, and message queues/event-driven architectures is a plus
- Familiarity with SQL databases is required and noSQL db exposure is nice to have
- You care about code quality, testing, and system reliability (required)
- Frontend exposure—we use Vue.js (nice to have)
- Experience in fintech/financial services, collaborating across time zones, or contributing to system design decisions (all nice to have)
What the job involves
- We're scaling our US engineering presence as part of a global team. This is your chance to get in early and shape how we build
- You'll be building core components of our embedded lending platform—the APIs and services that power credit decisions, partner integrations, and financial products for thousands of small businesses. This isn't maintenance work; you're architecting new systems and solving real distributed systems challenges

- Global collaboration: You'll work with engineers in Israel (Tel Aviv Office) and Georgia (Tbilisi Office) —different perspectives, follow-the-sun development, and a truly distributed engineering culture
- Early-stage influence: Reporting to the Head of Engineering, US, you'll get architectural ownership and technical impact earlier than you would at a big tech company. We're a focused team building critical financial infrastructure, and you'll have direct influence on technical decisions and architecture as we scale

- What you will build:
- Financial products: Design and implement lending products like term loans, lines of credit, and merchant cash advances
- Partner integrations: Create APIs that make it seamless for software platforms to embed Fundbox
- Customer experiences: Build application, approval, servicing, and repayment flows for small businesses
- Credit infrastructure: Develop services for real-time credit evaluation, underwriting, and decisioning
Our take
Having a reliable cash flow is essential for any business. Compared to transfers between individuals, B2B payments have been relatively slow to digitize, with payments delayed for around two months on average for small and medium sized businesses.
Fundbox has created a platform that speeds up how money is exchanged between businesses. Currently, there is over $3T in the U.S. stuck in accounts receivable, meaning cash that is owed between small business buyers and sellers.
As it moves forward, payments are its focus. The payments industry has seen revenue steadily growing, reaching almost $2T globally in 2018. New entrants are tapping into more areas of the space, although Fundbox is competing with companies like Stripe and Kabbage, it believes there is a big enough opportunity in the business-to-business market for several companies to thrive.
The company's long term goal is to be the Visa of B2B payment and credit, offering short-term small-business loans and B2B sellers can get paid at the time of sale via Fundbox Pay. At present, over 500,000 SMBs use FundBox, and it partnered with SMB financial health platform Nav in 2024, using the latter's financial health analysis to create more certainty for SMBs in loan underwriting.
