Role
Who you are
- BA/BS Degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline, or related practical experience
- 5+ years of experience in an analytics/ data engineering role
- 5+ years working on maintaining databases, and building scalable data models for analytical and BI purposes
- Strong proficiency with dbt
- Strong SQL skills preferably for data transformation or analytical use cases
- Comfortable with Python/R for advanced ETL/ELT procedures
- Experience using BI tools (e.g. Snowflake, Looker, Tableau) and an ability to design intuitive, user-friendly data visualizations
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer that is a highly motivated individual contributor, proficient in both analytics and data engineering
- You will work full stack and have a strong passion for uncovering insights through data and leveraging analytics to solve complex problems to drive continuous improvement, as we continue to grow the most powerful data-driven distribution platform
- Our current stack includes: Snowflake, dbt, Metabase, and Python
- Understand business objectives and apply advanced analytics and data engineering techniques to develop and implement innovative solutions that tackle complex problems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, build, and maintain scalable data pipelines and analytics platforms that empower our customers with actionable insights
- Act as a technical leader in the domain of analytics, demonstrating mastery over the latest data tools and technologies (e.g., SQL, Python, BI tools)
- Promote a culture of learning and excellence through code reviews, design discussions, and leading technical conversations with leadership
- Stay ahead in analytics and explore new data technologies and methodologies to enhance our analytics capabilities. This field is rapidly changing, and we’re looking for someone actively embracing new tools like AI to make the process of data analytics increasingly self-serve
- Proactively share knowledge and insights with the team to foster innovation and continuous improvement
- Develop and maintain robust data models, analytics frameworks, and custom analytics solutions to solve business challenges
- Utilize data to create business intelligence reports and dashboards optimized for strategic decision-making
- Champion engineering and analytics best practices, including data quality, data governance, testing, and performance tuning
- Ensure rigorous code reviews and advocate for architectural excellence
- Effectively articulate technical concepts and insights to non-technical teams. Mentor and support the development of junior engineers, promoting a culture of learning and growth
Our take
Excess inventory is one of the biggest pain points for modern retailers. Ghost solves this problem by making it easier for retailers to buy and sell excess inventory discreetly and sustainably.
With retailers wasting around $500 billion a year on excess inventory, demand for solutions like Ghost's is sky-high. The company has also made good on this demand, emerging from stealth mode in 2022 and about $38 million in funding to date. Ghost, which functions in much the same way as eBay, has benefited hugely from its founder's prior experience in the apparel industry.
Ghost's clear focus on sustainability and discretion has broad market appeal, especially for large-scale retailers looking to reduce waste and improve their public image. If Ghost can continue to attract such clients, it could scale at an impressive pace in the coming years.
