Role
Who you are
- 7+ years of industry experience in Machine Learning with a focus on Object Detection and Tracking, or related Computer Vision Deep Learning modeling
- Strong proficiency in PyTorch and/or Tensorflow for training deep learning models
- Deep understanding of Deep Learning model concepts, such as convolutional networks, transformers, attentions, losses, learning rates, etc
- Good understanding of traditional ML (supervised and unsupervised) algorithms
- Experience tuning and optimizing models for running efficiently on IoT devices
- Strong software engineering skills in Python
- Experience with SQL
- Basic Git knowledge
- Basic Bash knowledge
- Nice to have experience in running models on Qualcomm devices
- Nice to have C++ experience
What the job involves
- Flock’s LPR and Video devices detect and track objects to provide its customers with the best information to make actionable decisions
- The detection and tracking models that are used in these devices need to handle a myriad of different environments, lens configurations, fields of view, and purposes, all within power constraints and hardware limitations across diverse product lines including fixed position LPR, mobile LPR, video security cameras, and drones
- As Staff ML Engineer, Object Detection and Tracking, you will be part of a small time responsible for the design, training, evaluation, management, and integration of these sets of models to achieve optimal performance

- One major cultural component within Flock’s engineering teams is the “first day push”. The first day push focuses setup and onboarding to the things that matter to deliver value
- Review modeling code and infrastructure and understand how to use the modeling and data systems by training an object detection model

Our take
Public vehicle surveillance provides valuable insights to emergency services for the prevention of crime, but bringing information together to create leads is difficult. There's no standardised system for inter-city vehicle surveillance, and this makes it difficult for communities and law enforcement services to work together.
Flock provides surveillance equipment that aims to improve the abilities of law enforcement and homeowner associations to communicate data with each other. The company focuses on vehicle surveillance, innovating on existing technology by using machine learning to categorise vehicles by color, license plate, state, and other data points.
Whilst automated surveillance equipment is used daily within federal police forces, Flock builds technology systems that provide a means for smaller law enforcement agencies to quantify and share surveillance data easily. The company has raised strong funding to support the expansion of its manufacturing capabilities. But it has also faced a large dose of backlash from groups and individuals who are concerned about its capability for mass surveillance and the privacy of the data it collects.
