Role
Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience
- Strong technical knowledge of US GAAP and full-cycle accounting
- Hands-on experience with monthly close and financial reporting
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks Online, NetSuite, or similar) and Excel
- Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
Desirable
- CPA, or working towards CPA
- 5+ years' background in public accounting (Big 4 or regional) combined with industry experience, preferred
- Prior startup or high-growth company experience, preferred
- Familiarity with implementing systems and scaling accounting operations, preferred
What the job involves
- As an Accounting Manager at Impulse, you’ll be a key player in building a strong financial foundation, ensuring accurate reporting, and implementing efficient processes
- This is a hands-on role with high visibility and the opportunity to shape the accounting function from the ground up
- You’ll take ownership of the accounting function today—and grow into a leadership role as we scale
- This is a rare opportunity to build processes from the ground up while preparing to manage a team in the future
- Own all aspects of day-to-day accounting operations, including:
- Journal Entries and Reconciliation
- General ledger management
- Monthly/quarterly/annual close processes
- Bank and account reconciliations
- Expense reporting and payroll oversight
- Lead and manage the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial close processes
- Prepare and timely review financial statements (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow) in compliance with GAAP
- Establish and improve accounting policies, procedures, and internal controls
- Manage external relationships with auditors, tax advisors, and regulatory bodies
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis in partnership with leadership
- Implement new accounting systems, tools and processes to support scale
- Provide guidance and mentorship to junior accounting staff
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams on financial insights and reporting needs
- Collaborate with the Controller, who currently oversees AP/AR and Payroll. In the future it may lead to those functions transitioning under your management as the company grows and your leadership responsibilities expand
Our take
Impulse Space is developing a line of orbital transfer vehicles (OTVs) that enhance satellite manoeuvrability in space. The company offers products like Mira, for last-mile satellite deliveries and Helios, which can move spacecraft from low Earth orbit to geosynchronous orbit in under 24 hours.
Recognizing the strategic value of manoeuvrable spacecraft, the US Space Force awarded Impulse a $34.5M contract for two missions set for 2026. These missions, Victus Surgo and Victus Salo, will demonstrate in-space operations and enhance space domain awareness, showcasing the Space Force's focus on quickly responding to threats in a congested space environment.
Alongside this, the company secured substantial funding that will allow it to expand its operations and advance its OTV technology. With a proven track record of successful missions and strategic partnerships with the Department of Defense, Impulse is well-positioned to lead in the growing market for responsive satellite services.
