Who you are
- In addition to your core design skills, we’re interested to hear about your own superpowers, both in and out of work, and how they might contribute to our technological re-invention
- A bachelors degree or above in engineering, industrial design or related disciplines
- Sharp skills of observation and critical thought
- Interesting and original idea generation and development
- Creative and collaborative problem solving

- Experience/Interaction Designers come in many shapes - you might have a background in Industrial Design, Human Computer Interaction, Graphic Design, Motion, Service Design, Human Factors or UX
- An intuitive conviction about how things should work - you’re probably frustrated by bad systems and interfaces all the time
- Experience in designing interaction systems which straddle hardware, software, and the invisible connective tissue between them - not just digital
- Excellent digital design skills, probably using Figma, Sketch, Illustrator or similar
- A hunger to research, conceive, specify and pitch new features, or whole product concepts
- Someone who can speak some of the same language as engineers (software + hardware) in order to communicate clearly and problem solve together
- Someone who can contribute to our evolving design language and system for the Glyph Interface
What the job involves
- Please note: this is not a purely digital UX/UI role and experience with hardware and technology is essential
- As a team, our Design practice covers a wide range of disciplines - Industrial Design, Engineering, Experience & Interaction Design, CMF, Connectivity, Sound and Emerging Technologies such as AI.
- As a Hardware Interaction Designer at Nothing, you’ll be central to shaping the look and feel of our products and will work primarily from our small studio in King’s Cross, London.

The company was co-founded by Carl Pei, who previously co-founded OnePlus, a mobile tech company that operates in more than 30 countries worldwide. Since its 2021 Series A with the backing of Alphabets' VC arm, Nothing has launched a series of products including the Nothing Phone (1), a mid-range but aesthetically exciting android-powered device, along with earphones and, interestingly, a craft beer.
Nothing has successfully delivered a flagship product that has held its own in a fiercely competitive market populated with the likes of Apple, Samsung, and Google, along with mid-range rivals Honor and OnePlus. The company launched a follow-up device called Nothing Ear in 2024, a wireless headphone with Chat GPT integrations. If this is as well received as its predecessor then Nothing could grow into a household name.
