Role
Who you are
- Bachelor of Science degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- 10+ years of experience in embedded C/C++ and Python development and testing
- Proficiency with electronics hardware, including the ability to read schematics and PCB layouts, and the ability to perform basic hardware testing with lab equipment
- The ability to make basic harnesses for engineering purposes
- Strong documentation skills for software architecture designs, test procedures, results, analysis, etc
- Demonstrated success working in a dynamic environment
Desirable
- Master’s degree in Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Experience with satellite ground data systems
- Ability to design PCBAs including schematics and PCB layout
- Proficiency with Altium Designer
- Skills with FPGA design in Verilog or VHDL
- Experience with mechanical design in Solidworks
What the job involves
- The Staff Avionics Test Software Engineer will participate in all phases of testing avionics flight hardware for E-Space satellites
- You will work collaboratively with engineers of various disciplines to develop the automated test framework for satellite avionics and systems including test methods, custom embedded and PC based test software development, and ultimately support the rigorous flight-like testing of satellite hardware
- This position will report to the Director of Electrical Engineering and will work closely with the Electrical, Software, and Systems Engineering teams
- Develop avionics test architecture for the satellite as well as specific PCBAs
- Develop embedded firmware for custom avionics test PCBAs in C/C++
- Develop PC based automated test control software and GUIs in Python
- Develop database related code for the storing and processing of test data
- Verification testing of custom test software and hardware designs
- Develop test procedures in collaboration with other engineering disciplines
- Support automated testing of satellite electronics at the unit and system levels and anomaly resolution
- Work with flight hardware designers on design-for-test strategies
- Contribute to the development of engineering and production best practices to support most efficient manufacturing
Our take
Designed with a vision to democratize space, E-Space will provide custom networks for companies and governments so that entities can access space without high costs but with zero trust topology for cybersecurity.
Critics will look for the cost this sort of project will have on the environment but E-Space has built sustainability into every aspect of the business. The satellites are designed to actively and sacrificially capture and deorbit small debris in space whilst the constellation will be launched into small cross sections to reduce vulnerability to collisions.
No doubt given founder, Greg Wyler’s entrepreneurial history, following the company’s ‘Beta 1’ launch of its test satellites as well as the second ‘Beta 2’ launch, with mass production planned for 2023. E-Space also acquired CommAgility and intends to integrate its source code into a network of potentially hundreds of thousands of connectivity satellites.
