Role
Who you are
- You’re an accomplished Programme Manager who has se come from a technical background in hardware or software engineering
- You’ve developed an ability to manage complex projects and large programmes of work containing hardware and tech/digital elements, as well as operational/manufacturing and commercial workstreams, to deliver them on time and on budget (or somewhere close!)
- You have experience of delivering various types of projects and programmes with a range of methodologies and is keen to continue growing your experience as well as leading others to grow theirs
- You've been through the time, spec and cost trenches and as such you have a steady head and a pragmatic outlook. You’re the one people look to for assurance and guidance when times are tough
- No ego! Leave that at the door. You lead from the back, build people up, give others the credit but take the heat yourself
- You have at least a handful of years line managing a small team, you are passionate about developing high performing individuals and teams. You are highly empathetic but have the ability to be candid and direct with feedback
- You're an initiator. Rather than tell people what to do, you draw attention to actions that must be taken for the project goals to be met. You don’t expect others to do the work for you but you know when and how to collaborate with others to get things done
- You have top class stakeholder management and communication skills, with the ability to create strong, trusted relationships at all levels of seniority
- The idea of working within a scale-up in a fast-paced role excites you - the idea of working without boundaries doesn’t worry you, and in fact you thrive in environments where you can be instrumental in navigating through the ambiguity to deliver projects
- You have high standards and strive to be excellent, but you don’t take yourself too seriously and understand how important it is to have a laugh along the way
- Balancing the delivery of the scope, time and cost targets across the programme of projects to elicit the best overall benefit to the business in line with its growth plan for the year and beyond
- Experience of controlled and dependency based project management methodologies such as PRINCE2, and/or APM PMQ
- Experience of agile software development and corresponding methodologies such as Scrum and Kanban
- Experience with using tools to manage projects e.g. Jira, Asana, SmartSheet, MS Project
- Excellent problem solving, planning and prioritisation skills with the ability to estimate resource requirements against project scope and time targets
- Extensive experience of working with cross functional teams and understanding of the benefit of truly coordinated activities
- Great manager and budding leader that sets development goals and supports everyone around them
- Experience of working with a range of stakeholders on a project, from the in-house teams (engineering, finance, sales, operations) to external contractors and senior management
- Excellent communication skills, both technical and non-technical with the ability to write reports, present, and discuss results
- Openness, honesty and a commitment to bringing your whole self to work
What the job involves
- As a Programme Manager, your role sits within the Programme Delivery Team; a central team that partners with all our business functions to lead Elvie’s most complex and cross functional programmes and projects across Product, Operations and Commercial
- As a Programme Manager, you will have a broad responsibility across a range of programmes and projects and support the development of the Programme Delivery Team’s ways of working, tools and governance
- Line manage more junior team members, and mentor and coach other functional leads in project management to multiply the impact of our skill set and tools company wide
- Be directly responsible for programme managing one of our new flagship connected device products in development today, and you will oversee the delivery of a suite of projects managed by project managers or leads from other crafts acting as project leads
- Balancing the delivery of scope, time and cost targets across a programme of projects to elicit the best overall benefit to the business in line with our business growth plan for the year and our longer term 5 year strategic plan
- Managing technical, operational and commercial programmes and projects to timelines and budgets, either directly or through your team or indirect management of stakeholders
- Develop talent. Line manage a small team of project managers and mentor people from other crafts who lead smaller projects within your programme responsibility
- Strategic planning: partner with business owners to assess new project requests or objectively evaluate those in flight. Drive for clear requirements and agree project scopes that are feasible within our internal and external constraints
- Develop budgets: How much? That much. Bring the programme in somewhere close!
- Provide overviews, or nuanced and detailed analysis of progress, to both technical and non-technical people to explain outcomes and facilitate decision making
- Guide the project teams through the good times and the bad - help establish meaningful milestones and provide motivation when it's needed
- Analyse and manage risk: take a risk based approach and guide the teams to focus on the high risk elements of their project and as a result, deliver the goods
- Surface problems early: things don't always go to plan, but the quicker the problems are identified, the quicker they can be solved
- Set up fit-for-purpose governance, ways of working and tools for or projects and programmes to keep on top of progress, reporting, risks and stakeholder management
- Help the team learn from their successes and their failures with retrospectives
