Role
Who you are
- 2-4+ years of professional software development experience
- Fullstack experience on a product engineering team, ideally working with Ruby on Rails, with React and TypeScript
- Working knowledge of SQL / relational databases. Postgres? Even better
- Exposure to Go, GraphQL, and Kafka is an asset, but not a requirement
- Experience contributing to the design and implementation of production systems
- Experience building and consuming APIs, with an understanding of API-first development
- Comfort working on both customer-facing features and internal tooling
- An appetite for learning, experimentation, and curiosity, and an ability to apply what you learn to make products better
- A friendly, flexible, and pragmatic approach to work
What the job involves
- Creating a delightful customer experience from order creation through successful delivery is a core part of ezCater’s mission
- As a Software Engineer on the Fulfillment Experience team, you will focus on building systems and workflows that support post‑order fulfillment, delivery coordination, issue resolution, and operational excellence across ezCater’s marketplace
- You will work on services and experiences that sit at the intersection of customers, restaurants, delivery partners, and internal operations teams
- This includes evolving our fulfillment workflows, improving reliability and observability, and integrating with internal and third‑party systems that enable Customer Service and Operations to deliver exceptional outcomes at scale
- You’ll partner closely with Product, Design, Customer Service, Operations, and other engineering teams, and you’ll report to the Engineering Manager within the ezCater Product Engineering organization
- Design, build, and maintain backend services and workflows that support ezCater’s fulfillment and post-order experiences, with guidance from senior engineers and technical leads
- Collaborate with Product, Design, Customer Service, and Operations partners to help translate real-world fulfillment problems into well-scoped, practical technical solutions
- Contribute to improving system reliability, performance, and observability across critical fulfillment paths by implementing fixes, enhancements, and incremental improvements
- Deliver high-quality code by following established engineering standards, balancing quality and speed while learning when and how to iterate safely
- Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and team discussions to grow technical judgment and contribute to shared engineering outcomes
- Work within existing architectures and APIs while learning how different systems across ezCater interact to support fulfillment workflows
- Continuously develop your technical skills and domain understanding in a collaborative, feedback-driven environment

Our take
ezCater is an online marketplace app that provides catering options for businesses, working with food providers who enter their menus onto the app for customers to browse. ezCater sends each store its orders and handles customer service while the food providers fulfil the orders.
ezCater profits by charging a small commission on all orders that restaurants fulfil. The company counts JLL, RingCentral and the San Francisco 49ers among its customers. It previously fuelled expansion through acquisitions such as online catering platform GoCater in 2018 and MonkeySoft Solutions in 2019.
ezCater has enjoyed strong growth so far, in part by focusing on meal deliveries to a growing hybrid workforce as an employee benefit. It has been eyeing an IPO for some time, though these plans are yet to come to fruition. In the meantime, it has continued to develop its technology and unveiled a new supplier diversity program to uplift small businesses owned by underrepresented groups.
