What the job involves
- Fanatics Collectibles is looking for Senior Director of Brand (Product) Marketing for our growing Marketing & Media team
- The Senior Director is responsible for developing and implementing the Product Marketing strategy for mainstream sports (e.g. Baseball, Basketball, Football) for Fanatics Collectibles
- This position develops systems & evaluation for executing Product Marketing activities for mainstream sports involving: Product Campaigns, Portfolio Campaigns, and Collector Acquisition
- The Senior Director provides support and guidance to the direct team, as well as to the Product development teams members in order to deliver best in class experiences
- Mainstream Sports Brand (Product) Marketing Business Planning development
- Consistent and effective guidance to the team in order to activate top performing activities with current and future Collectors
- Ongoing best practice sharing
- Ongoing cross functional collaboration focused on positive impact for the Collector
- Adapt strategic priorities for Brand (Product) Marketing activities
- Grow Collector base through priority activities established for the Marketing Mix
- Create and share Brand (Product) Marketing best practices throughout the organization
- Strategic leadership of Product Marketing priorities for mainstream sports, ensuring delivery vs plan
- Foster development of and provide guidance to the team in the execution of the activities that positively motivate the Collector
- Guides the team towards high impact and efficiency on Collector driven programs
- Develop premium, engaging and effective programs for trade implementation within mainstream sports
- Accountable for the delivery of yearly Product Marketing business plan
- Assume responsibility for budget management on Product Marketing initiatives
Our take
Fanatics is a sports-based eCommerce company that offers teams and leagues a convenient online platform through which to sell licensed apparel and merchandise. As well as the Fanatics online store, it runs the online stores of dozens of teams and leagues including the MLB, NHL, NBA, and NASCAR. They've also signed a number of exclusive deals to become the sole vendors of officially licensed merch for top athletes across multiple leagues.
It operates using a Cloud Commerce sales system which tracks clicks and purchases on the site as well as sports and player news and updates to inform retail and marketing decisions in real time. The company was first established as Football Fanatics, a chain of bricks-and-mortar stores in malls across Florida. Since then, it has been bought out by GSI Commerce and expanded.
Looking ahead, while its commerce business remains its biggest source of revenue for now, Fanatics has expanded into livestreamed shopping around collectibles and trading cards, acquiring Tops and hiring Snap and Alphabet executive to launch this new business. It also has an NFT arm in Candy Digital, of which it’s the majority owner, as well as a fledgling betting and gaming division.
