Who you are
- We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Data Engineer to join our fast-growing startup at CoinFlip!
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, or a related field
- Proven experience as a Data Engineer, Software Engineer, Data Analyst, or similar role, preferably in the fintech or crypto industry
- Strong proficiency in SQL and experience with relational databases (e.g. Redshift, MySQL, PostgreSQL) and NoSQL databases (e.g. MongoDB, Cassandra)
- Proficiency in programming languages such as SQL, Python, or Java for data manipulation, analysis, and scripting
- Efficiently retrieve and process data from various API endpoints to support application functionality and data analysis
- Experience with big data technologies and frameworks (e.g. Hadoop, Spark, Kafka), cloud platforms (e.g. AWS, Azure, GCP), Orchestraction tools (Airflow, Dagster), GitLab, DBT, Terraform, Liquibase
- Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, data modeling techniques, and dimensional modeling
- Knowledge of statistical analysis, machine learning, and data visualization tools (e.g. Tableau, Power BI, d3.js) is a plus
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work with large, complex datasets
What the job involves
- As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in driving data-driven decision making and developing innovative solutions to optimize our analytics infrastructure
- You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, including data and software engineers, and product managers to ensure the accuracy, reliability, and scalability of our data systems
- Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and ETL processes to ingest, process, and transform large amounts of structured and unstructured data from valuable sources
- Design, build, and optimize data models and databases to ensure efficient storage and retrieval of data for analytical purposes
- Perform data analysis, data mining, and statistical modeling to identify trends, patterns, and correlations in the data
- Build and maintain data visualizations, dashboards, and reports to present insights and findings to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Conduct data quality assessments and implement governance practices to ensure accuracy, consistency, and integrity of the data
- Mentor and provide guidance to junior team members, fostering a collaborative environment
- Other duties as assigned
Our take
Believing in the benefits of briging cryptocurrency to a broader audience, CoinFlip has been providing a network of Bitcoin ATMs since 2015, with over 4,000 now located across the US and Canada.
Since its inception the company has stood out among competitors with its low fees, up to 30% lower than its larger rivals General Bytes and Genesis Coin. However, the company's vision reaches beyond just providing kiosks, with the recent introduction of Olliv, a self-custodial wallet aimed at simplifying crypto and allowing easy onboarding into the crypto economy.
The importance of this step for CoinFlip's mission cannot be understated - by giving new users the tools needed to engage with crypto it also increases adoption and therefore the need for real world withdrawals of cryptocurrency through its ATM network. Going forward CoinFlip's two-pronged approach here may well see it leap over the competition and forge a commanding lead in its market.
