Who you are
- This is a perfect opportunity for someone with strong technical skills and opinions who wants to make a difference in students’ lives across the country
- As comfortable writing production-grade code as they are architecting scalable systems
- A hands-on builder with 7+ years of software engineering experience
- Full-stack capable, ideally with deep backend and/or frontend experience
- Proven track record leading small teams or acting as a staff/principal engineer
- Strong grasp of modern software design, cloud infrastructure, and LLM APIs
- Passionate about code quality, scalability, and developer experience
- You thrive in fast-paced, ambiguous environments and lead by doing
- Bonus: experience in healthtech, edtech, or clinical tools
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a world-class Full-stack Engineer to take the reins of our product engineering team
- This is a high-impact, hands-on role that reports directly to the CTO
- You’ll play a central role in shaping the technical future of Marker Learning and bringing our AI-powered tools to life
- Be the technical lead and go-to expert for our AI-powered report generation tools
- Design, build, and scale backend and frontend systems used by clinicians and internal teams
- Drive architectural decisions, infrastructure setup, and code quality across the stack
- Partner with our AI/ML team to bring LLM-powered features from prototype to production
- Guide and grow a team of 5 engineers with strong mentorship, code reviews, and pairing
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks in development speed and product delivery
- Own uptime, performance, and security for core engineering systems
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, design, clinical, and AI teams

Our take
One in five American students has a learning disability and while a proper evaluation could be one of the most impactful events in these students' lives, only 4% receive a diagnosis because of the high costs involved and the lack of access to the appropriate psychologists. Undiagnosed students are more likely to drop out of school, fail to find a job and subsequently suffer from mental health issues.
The current learning disability support system is broken and Marker Learning is setting out to change this, by making critical learning disability evaluations and support more accessible and affordable. The startup is leveraging technology developed by experts at John Hopkins to provide evaluations in half the time and at a fraction of the price.
Having already reached a million students through school partnerships, Marker Learning is rapidly growing and raised $15 million in 2023. It announced its expansion into multiple new services as well, including tutoring and coaching. The startup is backed by some of the most mission-driven venture capital firms in the industry and with their help, it plans to continue scaling its partnerships and expand into new geographies.
