Role
Who you are
- As a Staff Electrical Engineer, you are comfortable designing, building, and testing control and communication circuitry
- You are scrappy and eager to be hands-on in a program’s early stages as well as willing to evolve as the program moves into production
- BS, MS (preferred), or above in Electrical Engineering
- 10+ years experience as an electrical design engineer
- Excellent knowledge of electrical schematics and control circuitry
- Proven experience in microprocessor and associated peripheral design
- Understanding of communication hardware interfaces such as ADC, CAN, SPI, I2C, WiFi, and Bluetooth
- Highly experienced in circuit simulation
- Experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools such as Altium
- Understanding of EMI/EMC
Desirable
- Experience with high voltage sensing circuits
- Comfortable with high voltage test equipment
- General understanding of electric power systems
- General understanding of automotive standards for PCBAs
- You are self-directed and are motivated to design the best system possible

What the job involves
- You will provide technical leadership, work closely with the software team, and help hasten our path to market with an exceptional vehicle that redefines RVing
- Create board requirements from high level product requirement
- Electrical component analysis and selection
- Design main control and interface circuitry for vehicle
- Design and/or support design of PCBs
- Fully bench test and validate completed PCBAs
- Work closely with software team to verify functionality
- Develop and execute a test suite to ensure performance and reliability
- Support integration testing via data analysis, troubleshooting, and debugging
- Support supplier management and requirements definition
- Provide input in manufacturing of PCBAs
- Help with EMC design and testing
- Collaborate with other teams to optimize system design
- Lead circuit design reviews
- Technical mentorship and guidance to growing team of engineers
Our take
Whilst mobile homes and camper vans have become a great way to travel and vacation at a lower cost and carbon footprint, there is still an efficiency problem with the vehicles involved. Due to the extra weight that a trailer creates, vehicles become less efficient in their mileage. Lightship RVs aim to solve that problem with their range of RVs, maximising mileage efficiency and creating comfortable trailer units in the process.
Founded by former Tesla engineers, the purpose-built travel trailers Lightship is building have their own self-propulsion system that enables near zero mile-per-gallon efficiency loss for the vehicle it’s attached to. With an 80 kWh battery within the trailer, it can make sure that a 300-mile range electric vehicle remains at a 300-mile range, thus reducing the anxiety associated with the possibility of a trailer affecting mileage per charge.
It is early days for Lightship, which was founded in 2020, with its hardware currently available to reserve. The company is planning a roadshow across the US to promote its release. The proof will be in the sales then, but with $57 million in funding to accelerate its development, Lightship’s road to success looks smooth.
