Who you are

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science from a fully-accredited college or university
10+ years programming experience, preferably in Python or Java
Deep understanding of relational databases including PostgreSQL with JPA/Hibernate
Our core stack is Python, legacy C, and PHP in some places; as part of our move to the cloud, we’re running Kubernetes, AWS technologies like EKS/Lambda/RDS/Aurora/Dynamo, and more
Git-based distributed version control systems
Agile-based project development in a microservices environment

What the job involves

Must be able to deliver high quality code on schedule, communicate with groups in and outside the development team
Convert business requirements into technical implementations
Write, test, and deploy efficient, scalable code to production that impacts millions of individuals
Make significant contributions to the code base
Agile Development Experience, including Experience working with continuous deployment technologies, such as Git/Gitlab/Octopus etc
Define best practices and uphold coding standards
Consistently demonstrate extremely high levels of technical knowledge, ingenuity and creativity. Develops and applies advanced technologies, engineering principles, theories and concepts. Broad knowledge about the design and operation of systems outside of specialty
Work within the Engineering team to develop features that specifically benefit our users
Work cross functionally with other teams to help make their features fully accessible to all users. This role offers a unique chance to touch virtually every feature in Galileo's digital touchpoints
Raise the bar on technical excellence and mentor other engineers

Our take

The global neobanking market is still growing at a staggering rate, valued at more than $50 billion and forecast to grow 50% annually for the foreseeable future. While companies like Revolut, Monzo, and Wise have been at the forefront of this digital revolution, Galileo has been a major background player.

In essence, the 2001-founded company provides some of the world’s leading fintechs (including the aforementioned Monzo and Wise), with the software and infrastructure they need to issue cards, process payments, and build innovative digital banking products.

The Fintech industry as a whole sat up and took notice when SoFi acquired Galileo for $1.2 billion in 2020, a year before going public. However, it's worth noting that since then, Galileo has continued operating as an independent subsidiary.

New partnerships with the likes of Fundbox and Global Rewards indicate that business is still booming for Galileo, while the company also looks to be exploring new, potentially very lucrative avenues in the crypto industry.
