What the job involves
- As a Front-End Software Engineer on the Product Platform team, you’ll make a significant impact on writing outcomes for millions of users
- You’ll also help drive business metrics by delivering existing and new Grammarly experiences to more users
- Be responsible for shipping Grammarly platform features from conception to design, prototype, implementation, and launch
- Develop, publish, and maintain JavaScript libraries that allow developers to integrate on to our client platform while defining powerful yet easy-to-use JavaScript APIs
- Build delightful developer experiences comprising of effective landing pages, easy-to-use integration configuration panels, informative documentation portals, and insightful dashboards
- Build protective measures against API misuse and incorporate rigorous security controls to protect end users’ data
- Work closely with partners to understand requirements, brainstorm, and prototype solutions
- Join a new team and focus on building solutions for new market segments
- Have the unique opportunity to help build the Product Platform Engineering team from the ground up through interviewing, onboarding, and mentoring new team members
- Help establish long-term relationships between Engineering teams at Grammarly and partner companies
- Work with back-end and infrastructure technologies
- Create an engineering culture with a strong emphasis on documentation, testing, and user experience

Grammarly was originally launched as a subscription service for students, although the platform has moved into the mainstream in the last decade. It went freemium in 2015 and now works across more than 500,000 applications and websites, including email clients, enterprise software, and word processors. Paid tiers give users more tools beyond grammar and spelling checks, including things like word choice, sentence rewrites, tone adjustments, fluency, and formality level.
The company has been profitable since the beginning and now has a valuation of more than $13 billion, placing it among the 10 most valuable startups in the US. The AI writing assistant space is heating up, and Grammarly is hoping to defend its position against offerings including Scalenut, Ginger and Microsoft's Editor by the release of its SDK, making it far easier to integrate Grammarly into other applications. So far, this has been used in over 4,000 products and earned excellent ratings and increased user numbers of Grammarly's service.
