MakeSpace's mission is to modernise the archaic storage industry by delivering the best storage experience in the world.
Traditional self-storage warehouses can only rent a storage space if they have one available, and people must have a car or truck to take their items in or out. MakeSpace sends a team of drivers and movers to a client’s location to pick up the items and take them back when needed. They deal with all manner of household items which has helped the business attract a strong customer base.
In the US alone, the annual spend on storage is $38 billion. Recognizing the potential of the company, and the large market they operate in, investors have already contributed over $142 million towards the company.
Makespace's collaboration with logistics experts Iron-Mountain has allowed them to access over over 1,500 warehouses and last-mile logistics, helping them to quickly enter new markets almost overnight. Founded in 2013, the storage firm is very much a pioneer, but now faces competition in the shape of U-Haul International, PODS, and Softback backed Clutter. The key to Makespaces' success will be the continuous focus on technology in order to reduce their operational costs in face of stiff competition.
