Role
Who you are
- Successful previous experience as a B2B senior events sales manager, consistently meeting or exceeding targets
- Experience and appetite to develop an events sales function from scratch
- Being responsible for developing established relationships as well as sourcing and qualifying new business
- Proven ability to drive the sales process from prospecting to closure
- Experience in collaborating with a wide range of internal stakeholders
- Excellent negotiation skills and strong ability to turn around objections to close
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-starter with strong work ethic, and 'can'do' approach to operate with minimal guidance
Desirable
- Minimum 5 years selling event sponsorship and exhibition packages in an industry association, technology events company, agency or B2B corporate marketing environment
- Experience with Microsoft Dynamics or similar tool to track all opportunities and wins
- Experience in one of our sectors (digital, government, innovation, rail, maritime, aviation, built environment, net zero)
What the job involves
- The Connected Places Catapult is looking to recruit a high-performing and driven B2B Event Partnerships Commercial Manager to implement the new commercial partnerships strategy and meet our revenue growth target
- Responsible for designing and implementing a strategic events sales plan that expands the company’s customer base and establishes it as a trusted value-generator for clients
- Responsible for nurturing existing established relationships as well as proactively researching the marketplace, sourcing and qualifying new business to build a sales pipeline from scratch
- Responsible for selling across multiple touchpoints (such as podcast series, VIP Dinners, Summits, etc.)
- Accountable for keeping up-to-date with other events in the marketplace, ensuring you understand their propositions and our USPs and communicating to the wider organisation
- Accountable for creating profitable new event features on the back of customer and market research
- Accountable for creating custom packages for clients to meet their business objectives
- Responsible for pipeline management and sales reporting, with revenue and yield to the wider team and CLT
- Experience in balancing editorial independence with commercial interests
- Attending industry events to network with existing accounts and generate new leads
- Experience in cross-selling and upselling
- Experience in consultative sales with high-level stakeholders
- Responsible for delivering excellent customer service through the sales cycle from prospecting, during the campaign period, through to post campaign analysis
