Role
Who you are
- An experienced backend engineer who is comfortable with Cloud deployments and solution architecture, systems integrations and ideally with integrating with and scaling communications APIs for email, SMS and other marketing channels
- Expertise in backend development is essential to help guide technical decisions and steer the team towards the best solution
- Bachelors in computer science or equivalent degree
- Proven years of development experience
- Proven years of experience w/ Agile methodologies
- Proven years of Java development experience and Spring Boot (At least Java 11 ideally with experience of latest LTS version)
- Engineering excellence in relation to backend coding including related tooling for Java (SCA, SonarQube, SpotBugs, PMD etc)
- TDD / BDD and capabilities including creating strategies for testing/verification of big data
- Automated test frameworks including mocked services, environments and deterministic datasets
- Experience testing backends that form part of a large heterogenous systems architecture
- Real production support experience and troubleshooting
- Experience implementing with good security practices (especially around handling PII data) and a secure-by-design mindset
- Architecting back-end solutions that operate at scale and account for latency
- Strong understanding of APIs, microservices, and RESTful architecture
- Proposing pragmatic solutions that minimise/reduce tech debt
- Adept at designing sensible database schemas
- Knowledge of data warehousing solutions
- Experience with SQL and common RDBMS
- Experience with NoSQL is an asset
- Experience with Apache Spark and Databricks is an asset
- Big-Data verification and QA strategies are an asset
- Familiarity with AWS or other standard cloud platforms
- Familiarity with OpenSearch & EMR is an asset
- Familiarity with Kubernetes, docker
- Observability / monitoring / tracing and experience on production support

What the job involves
- In the role of Senior Backend Engineer, you will work remotely for the TM1 Marketing team, based in the UK time zone
- With other team members, you will participate in the design and implementation of application components used for client event marketing
- This application is essential to Ticketmaster’s clients’ business, providing solutions for clients to help drive ticket sales and fan engagement
- You will be responsible for owning the design and development of entire application components
- You will have to rely on your wide range of experience to resolve complex issues, and you will have to mentor engineers on your team
- While being autonomous with minimal supervision of your team lead, you will rely on your technical knowledge to improve the application iteratively and suggest new solutions while using the best agile practices
- You will represent the team as a technical expert and work closely with the Product Manager on feature requirements and planning
- You will work with a wide array of technologies, be responsible for full end to end implementation of production strength features including both thorough (automated) testing and on-going production support
- Analyse and implement development stories to execute the product roadmap
- Implement robust scalable architecture
- Maintain and modernise legacy code and services
- Evaluate existing applications and services to determine technical changes and architecture improvements
- Automate testing, deployments, performance and recovery
- Ensure high quality through automated tests
- Develop on AWS cloud and Kubernetes
- Interact with Product Owner and UX teams

Our take
Live Nation is the world's leading live entertainment company, sitting at the top of the market in live events and ticketing. Formed in 2009, it is a major international company, with key business segments made up of concerts, ticketing, and sponsorship and advertising.
Despite its dominant position in the market, the company saw an 84% drop in revenue during 2020 and the closure of live events. Since then, however, demand has been stronger than ever for their ticket sales. This is a reflection that live events remain a clear priority for consumers and has been further reflected in Live Nation's acquisitions of companies - like Goodlive - that complement and bolster Live Nation's portfolio.
In addition to live events, a key area to watch for Live Nation will be the rise of online concert streaming, like that undertaken by competitors such as Driift. Major festivals such as Glastonbury have trialled online concerts with mixed reviews. If it proves successful, this could be a major new section of the entertainment market and a big potential part of Live Nation's future ventures.
