Senior Data Science Manager, Nextdoor

• Advanced degree in a quantitative field, and 10+ years working in data science, product analytics, machine learning, or equivalent, and/or the ability to perform at an advanced level in the domain
• Extensive experience in social media platforms or digital marketplaces, particularly within consumer-oriented products
• 3+ years experience managing a team of data scientists 6+ distributed across multiple surface areas
• Expertise with modern methods, tools, and packages for statistical modeling and machine learning, and experience in applying them to real world problems
• Experience formulating, running, and sharing complex analyses, including different types of experiments, causal inference studies, and other exploratory analysis work
• Comfort working across the product development spectrum: strategy, ideation, analysis, experimentation, and model architecture and development
• Exceptional written and oral communication, including ability to effectively communicate complexity to a diverse group of stakeholders

• As Nextdoor’s Core Product Data Science Lead, you’ll be responsible for owning data strategy and execution across all of Nextdoor’s core product areas
• As a key member of the senior leadership team, you will drive the overall company strategy
• Your focus will be on enhancing product-led user engagement through strategic use of data insights and close collaboration with cross-functional teams
• You will oversee initiatives to develop advanced models that analyze user engagement, decipher causal relationships, improve feed relevancy, and explore new user ecosystems
• Your team’s work is mission critical to driving the company’s overall growth and success
• As Data Scientists at Nextdoor, we design and oversee product experiments, own complex analyses to drive company and product strategy, and deploy online and offline models to a production environment
• We use a semi-embedded team structure, in which a group of data team members works on a specific product or pillar, interfacing directly with product and engineering stakeholders
• The Data Science group comprises people from diverse backgrounds and perspectives, trained in fields as wide-ranging as psychology, geology, physics, computer science, and statistics
• We are the mathematical decision scientists for their product development organization and play an active and collaborative role in building and improving the product
• In this role, you’ll be responsible for developing, communicating, and leading execution of our data strategy for all of Nextdoor’s core product areas
• This is a highly specialized role; experience in engagement data is a must, as are top-tier people management and communication skills
• The person who fills this role has the potential to fundamentally change the trajectory of Nextdoor’s business
• This role is also responsible for helping to grow, mentor, and develop our data science team
• You’ll help to enrich a supportive culture of learning, where no question is too small or too big to ask, and diverse voices can be heard
• You’ll work with other data science leaders to help set up the entire discipline for success in the years to come
