Role
Who you are
- Experience in software engineering and front-end application development
- Experience with modern web frameworks (e.g. react, angular, vue), python API frameworks (e.g. FastAPI, Django), and writing high-quality backend Python code
- Proficiency in data query languages and tools, e.g. SQL, NoSQL
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a cross-functional team environment
Desirable
- Experience with model evaluation and metric frameworks for autonomous driving or machine learning applications
- Experience with modern data processing technologies such as Apache Spark, Apache Kafka, and Databricks
- Experience with Dash Plotly or related frontend frameworks for data visualization
What the job involves
- We are seeking a highly skilled front-end engineer to design and develop the front-end of the metric platform for the Perception component of our autonomous driving stack
- As a member of the Perception team, you will be part of the “eyes and ears” of the Zoox autonomous driving stack, deploying state-of-the-art AI solutions to ensure safe and effective driving
- In this role, you will work closely with data engineers, data scientists, and software engineers to build a scalable and high-performance platform that enables perception engineers to efficiently evaluate their models across petabytes of multimodal data.
- You will be responsible for guiding the design of our metrics platform and managing a suite of frontends and APIs that power our platform, ensuring that they follow best practices and increase the efficiency, safety, and accuracy of not only Perception, but Zoox’s autonomous driving stack as a whole
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, is building a Zoox factory and budgeting $1 billion per year for future development and production.
