Role
Who you are
- If you are passionate about using data to improve business performance, enjoy challenging projects and are skilled at data modeling, keep on reading, as you might be the perfect fit for this job
- Experience: At least 6 years of experience as a data engineer, with a proven track record of building and maintaining production-grade data systems
- Cloud Expertise: Strong knowledge of SQL and hands-on experience with cloud-based Big Data platforms like Google BigQuery
- ETL/ELT: Expertise in data modeling and developing and maintaining data transformation pipelines using tools like dbt
- Orchestration: Experience with workflow management engines such as Airflow
- Automatization: Use Terraform/AWS CloudFormation to manage and automate the provisioning and configuration of cloud infrastructure
- Programming: Proficiency in at least one programming language, with a strong preference for Python
- Communication: Exceptional communication and presentation skills, with the ability to influence technical and non-technical stakeholders
Desirable
- Visualization: Familiarity with data visualization tools such as Qlik, Tableau, Looker, or Power BI
- Extract and Process: Develop and implement solutions to scrape and extract data from various sources and transform it into a usable format
- Domain Knowledge: Previous experience in the travel, digital, or e-commerce industries
- Analytical Skills: A strong understanding of data analysis principles and how to apply them to improve business outcomes
What the job involves
- We are looking for a Data Engineer to join our team of around 1,700 people worldwide to help us power up the traveller's journey for millions of holidaymakers
- Architect & Build: Design, develop, and maintain robust and scalable data pipelines and architectures on Google Cloud Platform (GCP)
- Innovate: Champion new approaches and technologies, leveraging AI to optimize data processes and generate deeper insights
- Collaborate: Partner closely with internal and business stakeholders to understand their data needs, translating requirements into effective technical solutions
- Prioritize: Manage competing demands and strategically prioritize projects to deliver maximum business value
- Ensure Quality: Guarantee the performance, reliability, and scalability of our data systems through rigorous testing and maintenance

Lastminute.com is among the global leaders in online travel. The company was built on a speciality of delivering last minute holiday deals to consumers and, although it now deals much like other providers, it still hosts both late bookings offers and flash sales. Rather than using a one-size-fits-all approach, lastminute uses Dynamic Packaging technology to allow customers to build personal holiday packages. Atop its website and app for searching and booking, it provides a range of other services including payment plans, insurance, and flexible cancellation.
Following a leadership change in 2023, lastminute had itself a pretty successful 2024. With a partnership with payment network, Zilch, allowing customers to earn rewards on their travel bookings as well as being able to spread the cost of their trips. Alongside this, it also signed a three-year contact with Ryanair to offer the airlines flights to customers. These additions to the company show promise for an exciting future of continued growth and dominance in the travel sector.
