Who you are
- We’re looking for outstanding engineers with a passion for technology who want to work with a world-class team
- We are looking for an individual who is passionate about the Kubernetes ecosystem and community including 3rd party and opensource technologies in the CNCF landscape and eager to learn how Zynga leads Kubernetes upgrades and infrastructure add-ons
- B.S. in Computer Science, Game Development, or equivalent OR similar training in a technical bootcamp. We are open to non-traditional backgrounds for cloud career paths
- 5+ years of hands-on software development experience
- Curious to gain professional-level knowledge in administrating, monitoring, and extending Kubernetes clusters at scale
- Experience in programming using Golang, Python, and/or other modern programming languages
- Experience in Shell Scripting, Linux Command Line environments (CLI), & Terraform
- Knowledge of Amazon EKS
- Understanding of algorithms, design patterns, debugging, and performance optimization
- Excellent interpersonal skills and connect with peers with confidence and clarity
- Demonstrate the ability to work independently
Desirable
- Proficient in Amazon EKS and exposure to production environments in AWS, AKS, GKE or equivalent experience
- Experience writing unit, integration, and/or regression tests in at least one language
What the job involves
- Join the team at Zynga making an impact across all of the company’s games - Mobile Game Tech! We focus on shared client & server tech that drives our games
- You will play a key role in helping architect, build and improve infrastructure for our games in AWS
- You will be especially focused on maintaining our containerization processes that support our single-tenant and multi-tenant Kubernetes/EKS clusters
- Provision, improve and maintain Kubernetes clusters hosting core live services and games with your scope impacting over 70+ games using infrastructure as code
- Write tech plans and perform upgrades of Kubernetes and add-ons across production clusters in an enterprise environment
- Optimize existing tech stack to influence reliability, scalability, security and to lower cost
- Work collaboratively across teams to create a culture of quality with a product-focused and platform approach
- Opportunity to work with AI tooling & LLMs in infrastructure
- Implement engineering procedures to uphold code quality, performance, and reliability using a continuous integration and continuous deployment strategy
- Participate in on-call backed by a team of experienced engineers and SRE as first-line responders
- Mentor Software Engineers and assist with their technical growth
Our take
Zynga is a games developer that rode Facebook's platform to success back in the late noughties and early 2010's. It is now one of the biggest casual game producers globally, with a presence across 175 countries and regions and over 80 million monthly active users.
Though the company hit a number of roadblocks after its initial success - such as falling stock prices, and numerous calls it was copying other games - its subsequent resurgence is proof of its staying power. It continues to use social media as a distribution channel, and boasts titles such as FarmVille, Merge Dragons! and Words With Friends.
Future success will lie in the company's continued investment in building viral games that people love. It will also need to attune to the social media waves and keep track of where users can be found, as the landscape has become more mobile. Notable recent activity includes a collaboration with BBC Earth ahead of 2024's Earth day, and grant to develop actionable push notifications that enable gameplay without entering the application.
