Role
Who you are
- Experience writing high quality code in React and Nextjs
- Experience in writing performant GraphQL API requests
- Experience working with a headless CMS (Dato)
- Great front end skills including mobile-first development with an ability to convert existing Squarespace design into high performance, responsive React components
- An ability to balance speed of iteration and quality of code: we need to build fast without compromising on reliability and usability but sometimes done is better than perfect
- Great communication skills: you can convert business requirements to code and explain complex technical concepts to the business

- React testing library and Storybook
- Experience working in a startup or fast paced environment
- An interest in accessibility
What the job involves
- We’re looking for a React contractor to join our team for approximately 4-8 weeks to help us migrate our existing marketing site from Squarespace to our in-house platform
- We’re looking for an experienced developer who can provide guidance, build new features, and maintain a high level of quality for a great user experience
- You will work closely with our front end and marketing teams to architect and build our existing marketing site in Nextjs powered by our headless CMS (Dato)
Our take
Byway arrange no-fly holidays for eco-conscious travellers, where participants voyage by way of trains, boats, and buses only, spending time at local accommodation and hidden stop-off points along the way. It’s a neat idea, and the relatively young company has been getting some high-profile attention for it.

Firstly, their model chimes neatly with the growing interest in low-carbon, low-impact activities that have been a major part of public conversation over recent years.
