Who you are

5+ years of relevant industry experience
Exceptional programming skills (SQL required, Python and Go are a plus)
Experience working on production stream processing systems utilizing technologies like Kafka, Materialize, Flink, Druid, etc
Experience with data workflow tooling like Airflow
Familiarity with AWS or another cloud platform
A quick learner, a self-starter, able to work independently, and you're willing (and able) to handle the pressures of an increasing level of responsibility

What the job involves

Architect systems and frameworks from scratch that allow Data Science and other engineering teams to leverage data effectively in a self-serve manner
Work closely with full-stack Data Scientists to understand and address their platform needs
Empower Data Analytics by enhancing our data workflow systems and building out a real-time analytics platform
Identify new opportunities and new technologies that improve our existing systems and make our collaborator's lives easier
Improve the reliability and processes around all data systems even as the amount of data continues to scale
The Data Platform team is responsible for providing the core building blocks necessary to enable GOAT to capture the full power of data
This requires reliable infrastructure and abstractions provided by the Data Platform team

Our take

GOAT is a resale marketplace built around one core promise: if you buy it there, it's real. Best known for sneakers, the company helped pioneer the "ship-to-verify" model, where sellers send items to GOAT first for authentication before they ever reach the buyer. In a market driven by hype and scarcity, that extra step has become a major trust signal, especially for high-value, hard-to-find pieces.

Alongside human authenticators, the company has invested heavily into machine learning - reportedly using tools like NVIDIA's deep learning tech - to improve speed and accuracy at scale. At the same time it hasn't stayed confined to sneakers. By acquiring Flight Club and Grailed, GOAT has expanded into physical retail and broader streetwear, giving it multiple ways to reach buyers and sellers.

Now GOAT sits in a competitive space alongside platforms like StockX, but its positioning feels slightly different. Think less transactional exchange, more curated marketplace with a strong brand identity. As resale continues to grow globally, GOAT's challenge will be maintaining that trust and curation as scale.
