Who you are
- Technical Expertise: 5+ years of professional software development experience with modern compiled languages such as Go, Rust, Java, or C++, and a deep understanding of architecture, design patterns, and scalability for distributed systems
- Infrastructure Mastery: Proven experience with infrastructure tools and technologies like Docker, Kubernetes, Ansible, Terraform, and modern CI/CD systems such as GitLab CI/CD, GitHub Actions, or CircleCI
- Strong Foundations: Solid computer science fundamentals, including data structures, algorithms, and concurrency/multi-threading
- Networking Knowledge: Familiarity with TCP/IP, network programming, and Unix/Linux environments
- Problem-Solving Skills: Ability to evaluate trade-offs in infrastructure design to deliver scalable, reliable, and efficient solutions
- Collaborative Communication: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to foster cross-team collaboration and shared success
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent professional experience (5-8+ years)

What the job involves
- We are seeking Senior/Staff Software Engineers to design and develop internal tooling and infrastructure management systems for Crusoe Cloud, a leading cloud provider
- In this role, you will play a pivotal part in creating and improving tools for engineering, operations, and support teams
- You’ll develop purpose-built solutions to manage data center infrastructure efficiently, including software for asset management, inventory tracking, infrastructure visualization, operational insights, and more
- You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate and implement scalable, reliable, and user-friendly solutions. Your work will drive operational efficiency, streamline infrastructure processes, and enhance the performance of Crusoe Cloud’s platform as we scale
- Additionally, you’ll have the opportunity to mentor other engineers, contribute to technical assessments, and help shape the team’s growth and success
- DCIM Tooling and Efficiency: Build purpose-built data center infrastructure management (DCIM) tooling for Crusoe Cloud to rapidly buy, track, deploy, and maintain hardware. This includes capabilities such as asset management, inventory management, digital twins of our infrastructure, deployment efficiency software, and operational visualization tools
- Collaborate closely with the data team to ensure infrastructure insights are actionable and visualized effectively
- Support Critical Infrastructure: Partner with engineering teams to define and implement software solutions that support the development and scaling of Crusoe Cloud’s data centers
- Collaborate with internal teams to identify and deliver software solutions that assist in the efficient buildout of physical data centers
- Foster Technical Excellence: Mentor and collaborate with fellow engineers to uphold high standards in architecture, design, and implementation
- Provide guidance on technical assessments and code reviews to maintain quality across the team
- Participate in Build versus Buy Decisions: Work closely with product to assess and recommend whether to develop software in-house or procure third-party solutions, ensuring alignment with long-term scalability, cost-effectiveness, and operational efficiency
- Collaborate Cross-Functionally: Partner with cloud support, operations, and product teams to design tools that align with Crusoe Cloud’s growth and operational needs
- Drive Scalability and Reliability: Lead the design of scalable, fault-tolerant systems that ensure reliability and resilience in our infrastructure as we scale our offerings
- Promote Best Practices: Advocate for modern software development, CI/CD, and infrastructure-as-code (IaC) practices to improve team efficiency and product reliability
- Own Solutions End-to-End: Take ownership of initiatives, from ideation and design through development and deployment, delivering solutions that drive measurable impact for Crusoe Cloud
Our take
Crusoe is tackling one of the biggest challenges facing the digital age: the enormous energy demand of data centres and AI infrastructure. As AI models grow more powerful, they require immense computing power (and therefor electricity) to train and operate. This surge in energy use has put some pressure on power grids, driven up costs, and raised environmental concerns. Crusoe is on a mission to make this process more sustainable by finding smarter, cleaner, and more efficient ways to power the data centres that drive modern computing.
The company started out by putting wasted energy to work. Originally known as Crusoe Energy, it captured natural gas that would otherwise be burned off ("flared") at remote oil sites and used it to power modular data centres. Today, Crusoe has evolved into a major player in AI infrastructure, designing and operating large-scale data centres near renewable or stranded energy sources. It's now one of a handful of "neocloud" companies (next-generation cloud providers focused on flexible, efficient computing for AI workloads). And its facilities are helping tech giants like OpenAI handle the massive computing requirements of training advanced AI models.
Recently, Crusoe has attracted some huge investor attention, tripling its valuation to over $10B and raising $1.4B in its latest funding round. It's building OpenAI's first major US data centre campus and even experimenting with bold new frontiers. In partnership with Starcloud, Crusoe plans to deploy the world's first space-based cloud computing infrastructure, powered by solar energy and orbiting the Earth by 2027. If successful, this could redefine how and where computing happens, opening up a cleaner, virtually limitless source of energy for AI's next generation.
