Role
Who you are
- 2+ years of industry experience as a software engineer, preferably with experience in high-growth startups
- Strong coding skills
- Some understanding of scalable distributed systems, and a willingness to build proficiency with languages and tools such as Node.js, Rust, PostgreSQL, and Terraform (AWS experience is a plus)
- Ownership mindset, taking initiative to build and fix
- Strong problem-solving skills, with a track record of contributing to solutions that scale to complex and high-traffic applications
- Excellent communication skills to effectively partner with teammates and managers, and the ability to commit to and execute priorities
- Willingness to participate in on-call processes to help quickly diagnose and resolve issues
- Alignment with our values, including a desire to empower others, a focus on team and user success over individual achievement, and transparency and willingness to admit mistakes and failures

What the job involves
- The rise of AI-generated software has validated everything Bubble has been building toward for over a decade. But pure AI-generated code is fragile, hard to debug, and rarely production-ready. Bubble bridges that gap, combining the speed of AI with a structured visual platform that produces stable, scalable, secure software
- The people who join Bubble right now will help define what that means for millions of builders around the world. If you've ever wanted to work on something that genuinely changes who gets to build, this is your moment
- Our Scaling team executes on our scaling, reliability, and enablement efforts to support our largest customers as they continue to grow
- Our scope includes both scalable infrastructure, and our core backend software systems. Success means delivering just-in-time capacity, running workloads quickly, and ensuring data scalability across numerous applications, while balancing costs and addressing issues like implementation and infrastructure inefficiencies
- You'll help tackle challenges faced by the largest cloud providers, working alongside a small, elite team on a platform that is reshaping the traditional engineering stack for the entire world
- This is an opportunity to grow your skills on real-world, high-scale systems while learning from senior engineers, and to help foster an inclusive, effective, and collaborative engineering culture. This role includes after-hours/on-call availability
- Contribute to the Bubble infrastructure that scales to infinitely many apps of any size and complexity
- Help improve performance and reliability across backend services, supporting our efficiency, capacity management, and data tier
- Support observability efforts across core parts of the system, helping implement SLOs and surface performance characteristics to end users
- Help support billions of requests across a platform that powers arbitrary end user applications, by building and iterating on core backbone services
- Contribute to the workflow engine and data tier, supporting high-volume ingest, export, and workflows for diverse direct-to-consumer applications
- Build foundational services and tools that support our next-generation cloud infrastructure
- Participate in our triage and on-call process (along with the rest of the engineering team) to diagnose and resolve issues, and help implement changes that prevent recurrence
- While we do not require new hires to be experts in our tech stack on day 1, familiarity and a willingness to learn fast is helpful. Our tech stack includes:
- Frontend: Typescript, SolidJS
- Backend: Typescript, Node.js, Redis, Postgres, TimescaleDB
- Infrastructure: AWS (ECS, RDS, Elasticache), Terraform, Typescript, Rust
Our take
More people than ever are interested in starting a digital product business such as a SaaS, social network or marketplace, but getting started is tough. Creating tangible proof-of-concept products generally requires software development skills, and without experience in coding, this usually results in expensive programmer hires.
Bubble provides a no-code software development platform, allowing its users to build SaaS apps, dashboards, CRMs, marketplaces, social networks, and other web or mobile-based software applications without coding experience. The platform allows users to navigate prototyping, launch, collaborative iterative development, and unlimited scaling through simple drag-and-drop interfaces, allowing anyone to develop software without the need for programming experience.
No-code software development startups have been growing in popularity and this undeniably presents significant competition for Bubble, but their all-in-one approach to design, functionality, and management gives them a cutting edge over similar niche-focussed alternatives. The company claims that through its platform, businesses can launch and develop products at a much faster rate due to increased accessibility to software development, without the need for expensive hires and infrastructure.
