Who you are

- Excellent analytical, research, and communication skills in English; proficiency in German is a plus
- Highly organised, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing multiple tasks in a dynamic environment
- A positive, can-do attitude: you take ownership, learn quickly, and deliver high-quality work collaboratively

What the job involves
- The Intern will support the Motive Ventures team in identifying, evaluating, and executing early-stage fintech investment opportunities across Europe and North America
- Working closely with investment professionals, the intern will assist with market research, due diligence, portfolio analysis, and pipeline management
- The internship offers exposure to the full venture investment lifecycle, from sourcing to execution, within a leading fintech-focused investment firm. This role provides an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in venture capital
- The position is based in our Berlin office, with a 6-month duration
- Conduct comprehensive market research and sector analysis to identify emerging fintech trends, themes, and investment opportunities across Europe and North America
- Support the investment team in screening, evaluating, and prioritising new opportunities, including initial outreach, analysis and presentation of key findings
- Assist in the preparation of investment material, such as internal memos, pitch decks, and summaries for discussions
- Perform financial modelling and valuation analysis to support due diligence and portfolio monitoring processes
- Collaborate with team members on due diligence workstreams, gathering and analysing data on company performance, business models, and market dynamics
- Maintain and update the investment pipeline database (Affinity), ensuring accuracy and visibility across all active and potential opportunities
- Track portfolio company performance and prepare regular portfolio updates for internal and external stakeholders
- Contribute to knowledge sharing and research projects in collaboration with colleagues
- Participate in internal meetings and brainstorming sessions, providing analytical and strategic input to the Ventures team
Our take
Motive Create has been built with personal data ownership as a foundation, its core belief is that an individual should own their data, end of discussion. It believes, that "we are all currently observers of one of the most outrageous crimes ever, The Great Brain Robbery. Technology companies are exploiting the individual and monetising their data without their explicit permission."
In order to address this, Motive Create has focussed on empowering people to own their own data and use it to find things they really need. The company developed a set of marketplace technologies named Spoke. Within Spoke, insights are created consensually from an individual’s data and using insights Spoke can generate requests for products or services from defined marketplaces. Spoke was built by leveraging the team's experience in trading technology; it's a request, quote and execution model, that connects demand and supply. Motive believes this will lead the supply side to a new operating model where providers are able to personalise products around the needs of individuals.
In terms of real-world applications, Spoke is helping individuals access a holistic view of their finances, across multiple accounts. Motive then is using this to help people optimise their finances. It wants to apply this type of thinking across different markets. It's an ambitious plan and will be a long journey to get there. The challenge for Motive Create will be ensuring they maintain focus to make a difference in the markets the company operates in.
