Role
Who you are
- Experience driving decision-making at various levels in an organization
- Familiarity with SQL, Python, R, or Scala
- Sound statistical inference skills, with the ability to communicate uncertainty appropriately to engineering and business stakeholders
- Experience designing metrics and building mechanisms to fuel business insights
Desirable
- Basic fluency in C++
- Experience with geospatial data analysis
- Experience with Spark or large-scale data analysis
- Familiarity with or exposure to experimentation platforms
What the job involves
- You will be responsible for partnering with our AI, simulation, and mission assurance teams to drive improvements, inform development, and identify high leverage projects on our path towards autonomy
- You will play a key role in enabling Zoox to develop and scale with a data-driven environment
- You will join a diverse, experienced team with rapidly growing scope and responsibility while also having access to one of the most unique data sets in the autonomous vehicle industry
- Collaborating with our mission assurance team to validate and ensure the safety of our software
- Defining key performance metrics for our service and ride quality in order to guide product development to a commercial launch
- Identifying key areas of investment for our perception, prediction, and planning teams
- Establishing best practices and statistical rigor around data-driven decision-making
Our take
Zoox, a self-driving vehicle company, was founded to make personal transportation safer and more enjoyable for all. It has aimed to achieve this goal by creating a new mode of driverless transportation, thus eradicating the safety and logistical issues that come with human drivers.
It revealed its custom vehicle design in December 2020, showcasing something different from just a car without a driver. Uniquely, all four wheels are independent of one another, and the vehicles have no front or back, making them more agile than a standard car. Zoox claims that it is different from other industry players because it has created an entire driverless ecosystem, including the vehicle itself, allowing it to have more control.
The company is fast becoming a major player in an industry that is predicted to be worth $2 trillion by 2030. Electric motors are highly desirable, particularly in an urban environment, as governments look for ways to reduce emissions and improve air quality. Zoox is aiming to play a vital role in this evolution towards more sustainable urban mobility. Amazon acquired the company in 2020 and, despite a general downturn in the sector through 2022, is building a Zoox factory and budgeting $1 billion per year for future development and production.
