Role
Who you are
- BS in computer science, electrical engineering, or related field
- 5+ years of work experience with a BS degree or 3+ years of work experience with an MS degree, developing real-time embedded firmware in C
- Ability to read and follow electrical schematics
- Knowledge of embedded systems architecture and real-time operating systems (RTOS)
- Proficiency with tools like Git/JIRA and platforms like GitHub
- Proficiency with scripting languages such as Python
- Knowledge of design controls and medical device development regulations is preferred
What the job involves
- As a firmware engineer, you’ll focus on delivering high-quality, reliable products by collaborating with cross-functional teams across design, research, manufacturing and quality throughout the full product lifecycle
- Your design iterations get incorporated during development to improve the product’s quality and reliability, so the user gets the best possible experience
- At the end of the design cycle, you will be performing testing to verify that the product meets its intended design requirements
- Additionally, you will document design in accordance with applicable product development processes, Quality, and Regulatory requirements
- What success looks like:
- Develop and maintain firmware and software in accordance with Beacon’s QMS
- Perform firmware design with significant challenges related to complexity, power, size, and RF communication
- Execute on all phases of firmware development, including requirements capture, prototyping, design, unit testing, static analysis, code review, design verification, debugging, and manufacturing readiness
- Develop automated tests to ensure high-quality software releases
- Develop production software tools for mass production
Our take
The brain has long been considered one of the most mysterious fields of medicine - and psychiatric and neurological diseases therefore one of the least understood. Better access to real-time brain data, however, could change this. That’s exactly what Beacon Biosignals is hoping to deliver.
Beacon Biosignals has developed a scalable electroencephalogram (EEG) analytics platform that leverages AI to more accurately and insightfully manage brain data. Its capabilities run from analysing existing data, to identifying and standardising neorobiomarkers, to continuously aggregating and analysing trial data.
The hope is that this will help clinical brain researchers carry out faster and more accurate work, ultimately accelerating the pace of treatment development in neurology. It’s a smart new AI application, and Beacon Biosignals is acquiring new companies to scale and receiving handsome funding - but for that reason the company isn’t alone in pursuing it. Bitbrain is also developing neurology AI, although with a tighter focus on product development. This may help differentiate Beacon Biosignals in what is still a relatively new market area.
