Who you are
- If you’re a strategic marketer who loves building value narratives, crafting go-to-market strategies, and driving complex cross-functional programs from concept to execution, this is an opportunity to make a major impact on one of Discord’s most beloved products
- You have 6+ years of experience in product marketing, partner marketing, or related fields, ideally with consumer subscription or platform products
- You’re both a strategic storyteller and operator, able to connect high-level brand value to detailed GTM execution
- You have experience partnering with Sales or Business Development teams, supporting pitch development, building enablement materials, and influencing partner decision-making
- You excel at cross-functional leadership, bringing together cross functional teams to successfully deliver high complexity launches
- You’re deeply familiar with gaming, digital entertainment, or consumer tech ecosystems — you understand what motivates users and what makes value propositions resonate
- You love combining data, creativity, and partnerships to deliver programs that delight users and move the business
- Experience in subscription marketing, loyalty or membership programs, or consumer partnership development
- Background in gaming, entertainment, or digital lifestyle brands
- Experience running global co-marketing or partner programs
What the job involves
- We are seeking a visionary Senior Product Marketing Manager to shape and drive the future of the Discord Nitro third-party benefits ecosystem
- In this high-impact role, you will define the strategic roadmap for our growing portfolio of partner perks, collaborating closely with the Strategic Partnerships team to identify and secure the right partners, craft compelling, data-driven value propositions, and equip partner-facing teams with the narratives and enablement materials they need to succeed
- Additionally, you will own the end-to-end consumer go-to-market strategy for the entire program and all new perk launches, working in lockstep with both our partners and Discord’s cross-functional marketing teams
- Define and evolve Nitro’s benefits strategy, partnering with our Partnerships team to identify, evaluate, and secure high-impact third-party perks that drive acquisition, retention, and engagement
- Own sales enablement for our partner program, equipping the Partnerships team with clear value propositions, compelling narratives, and pitch materials, and supporting them throughout the full partner journey — from initial outreach and pitching to negotiation and signing
- Lead go-to-market for the Nitro third-party benefits program, developing and continuously refining the program’s value proposition, shaping how we position it to users, and driving launches and ongoing campaigns that make 3P benefits a core, growth-driving pillar of the Nitro offering
- Measure and optimize program performance, running partner reviews, producing case studies, and scaling best practices to grow engagement and renewals
Our take
Discord is an industry giant in the chat app space. The free platform has rapidly become one of the most popular services in the sector since being founded in 2015. It counts over 200M active users in 19M communities, successfully expanding beyond its original focus on video game players to become a broader social networking app and public forum.
Discord's userbase has grown rapidly as remote work has become the norm and a new generation of internet users has come online, attracted to its youthful presentation and plethora of gaming and social tools. It has since fended off takeover bids from Microsoft and interest from other giants such as Amazon and X, and has grown into a profitable company, funded by optional subscription fees and commissions from sales through the platform.
Discord’s remarkable growth, however, is not without obstacles. The company faces competition from deep-pocketed giants like Facebook, and regulatory concerns from those worried about the platform’s relatively light chat moderation. However, the company has the resources and expertise to adapt. For example, the acquisition of harassment detection software company Sentropy will go a long way towards placating the concerns of critics, as will the 2024 acquisition of teen app Gas used to give anonymous compliments to friends. All of these purchases are part of Discord's move to expand out of its mostly gaming-focused customer base.
