Who you are
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, related field, or comparable work experience
- 5+ years of professional engineering experience
- Demonstrated success building positive relationships with partners and stakeholders
- Experience in building highly scalable, reliable, available, and performant systems
- Experience driving all phases of the development lifecycle: planning, execution, and measuring success, post-launch maintenance
- Proven track record of modern applications design architecture, good API design patterns, security, performance, and scaling
Desirable
- Experience at early or growth-stage companies
- Demonstrated success leveraging data to inform decisions
- Experience with AWS or equivalent platforms
- Experience with NodeJs, Typescript, Kafka
What the job involves
- We are looking for an experienced Senior Software Engineer to join our Applications Platform team, the backbone of Rula’s platform, providing core services and data that power user experiences across multiple verticals
- In this role, you will design and build scalable, reliable backend systems that are critical to both the day-to-day operations at Rula and the seamless functionality of our platform
- As a key contributor, you’ll solve complex technical challenges, collaborate across teams, and drive innovation that supports our mission to deliver impactful and cohesive solutions
Our take
More than half of adults in the US will be diagnosed with a mental illness during their lifetime, and yet inaccessibility of treatment remains a huge problem. That’s what Rula aims to solve, with its platform that matches users to therapists that are covered by their insurance.
The company, formerly known as Path, is partnered with a number of major health insurers, including UnitedHealthcare and Anthem, making it an accessible service for millions of Americans. It allows users to browse therapists almost instantly, with just a short questionnaire to fill in before their matches are shown.
Though the market for tech services offering mental health provision is an overstuffed one, containing giants like BetterHelp as well as newer competitors, Rula's partnerships with insurers do mark it out against the crowd. The business has been steadily growing, and significantly bolstered its executive team in 2023. Its recent rebrand was designed to emphasize its vision to improve not only access to mental health care, but also clinical outcomes.
