Who you are
- Proven experience building, leading, and scaling global SRE, Production Engineering, or Infrastructure teams responsible for highly available, business-critical production systems
- A track record of driving technical and organizational change
- Strong understanding of Linux, networking, automation, observability, and production operations
- Experience with performance-sensitive or highly available systems; trading or exchange experience is a plus
- An intellectually curious mindset and willingness to challenge how things are done
What the job involves
- IEX is looking for a Head of SRE, Cross-Asset to lead our SRE organization as we scale our Equities business and launch Options
- We’re looking for a deeply technical, intellectually curious leader and change agent who can challenge the status quo, develop strong teams and technical leaders, and evolve how we approach reliability across our trading platforms
- This person will be responsible for the reliability and operational excellence of our production environments while helping define a scalable SRE model across asset classes. Direct exchange experience is a plus, but we are open to leaders who have owned sophisticated large-scale, complex, production engineering environments
- Our environment includes Linux, Java, C++, Python, Rust, Bash, Ansible, Prometheus, VictoriaMetrics, Grafana, and Azure, with predominantly on-prem production
- Lead and develop the SRE organization across Equities and Options
- Define and drive our strategy for reliability, observability, automation, incident management, capacity, and performance
- Partner with Core Development, Network Engineering, Market Operations, and Platform Engineering, as well as business and regulatory stakeholders to operate highly reliable, performance-sensitive trading systems
- Develop tooling, including CLI tools used to support our production systems
- Develop engineers and technical leads while creating common standards and best practices across teams
- Remain technically engaged and help teams troubleshoot complex issues across applications, infrastructure, hardware, and networks
Our take
Innovations in fintech infrastructure have dramatically changed how people invest, but despite such developments, investors still face limitations when trading assets. Exchanges often list out-of-date pricing information, which limits investors' abilities to make strategic investment decisions, a problem that is heightened through knock-on effects from other unstable stock prices.
IEX provides a registered US stock exchange for investors and broker-dealers, focusing on providing a more stable trade execution experience than existing exchanges. The company achieves this through its "Speed Bump" strategy that delays trades to gather up-to-date pricing information whilst assessing them for price stability, ensuring that trades are not executed based on stale data, and helping to notify other orders to react to other stock price stability levels.
Whilst the company must share the stock exchange sector with many competitors, IEX shows great promise through its focus on maintaining pricing accuracy and stability. The company also stands out by providing a cloud platform for the selling, sharing, and use of financial data, in addition to an investment lifecycle advice tool for institutional investors.
