Role
Who you are
- A successful candidate will be someone who can work independently – startup life in a largely remote organization requires someone who can take direction and move quickly
- At least one completed year of law school (i.e., you should be a 2L or 3L)
- Stellar organizational skills, and the ability to juggle and prioritize multiple requests
- Basic understanding of contract law
- Strong legal research skills, including the ability to research new and unfamiliar areas of law
- Strong, clear verbal and written communication
- Demonstrated critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills
- Resourceful, highly organized self-starter with a bias towards action and efficiency
- Healthcare or benefits experience or interest is a plus
- Experience working with commercial teams or contracting is a plus
What the job involves
- As a Legal Intern, you will play an important role on Maven’s small but mighty Legal & Compliance team
- You will spend the majority of your time: (1) doing legal research projects (relating, for example, to clinical or healthcare regulatory requirements in various states or countries), and
- (2) assisting our commercial legal team with intake, review, and filing of various commercial agreements
- You will see up close how an in-house legal team functions at a late-stage venture-backed startup, and you will have the opportunity to gain valuable commercial, regulatory, and product experience
- This is a part-time role, with an expectation of 20 hours per week. You will be reporting to our Director, Lead Counsel (Product & Privacy), though you should expect to get feedback from all of the members of the Legal & Compliance team that you work with
- Help manage intake for our legal ticketing system, to make sure legal requests are addressed speedily and efficiently
- Review and file executed commercial agreements, identifying important deviations from our standard legal terms
- Help route agreements for signature
- Help review redlines for basic commercial agreements (e.g., NDAs)
- Conduct legal research on a variety of legal topics, including clinical & healthcare regulations, benefits regulations, data privacy laws, employment laws, etc
- Shadow members of the Legal & Compliance team on various projects
- Be available to assist with a range of other projects as they arise
