Who you are
- Progressive experience in total rewards management at a rapidly scaling company, including hands-on experience with payroll and benefits administration
- 5+ years of people management experience, where you were responsible for all facets of an employee’s performance management and development plans
- Experience adapting to and managing multiple competing priorities and programs within a tight timeframe while producing high-quality results
- Highly strategic with financial acumen, whereby you can perform mathematical and statistical ability to model what-if analyses and estimate program costs
- Experience communicating with all levels, including Senior Executives
- Current experience performing job analysis, evaluation, market research, and analysis of salary rates concerning compensation levels, and providing recommendations for job pricing and compensation offers
- Advanced skills in Excel; experience leading HRIS system projects
What the job involves
- Upside is hiring a Director, Total Rewards to oversee and optimize our comprehensive compensation and benefits programs.
- This strategic player-coach role will manage and run all aspects of US payroll, US benefits, compensation structures, and bonus and equity administration.
- You will bring a deep understanding of Total Rewards strategy, coupled with hands-on expertise in payroll management and benefits administration.

- Total Rewards Strategy Development:
- Develop and implement a holistic total rewards strategy aligned with organizational goals and industry benchmarks while ensuring competitive positioning through regular analysis and adjustments of compensation and benefits offerings
- Compensation Management:
- Oversee the design, implementation, and administration of all US compensation programs
- Manage compensation for all review cycles, which includes salary, bonus, and equity plans to increase performance and retention
- Conduct market analysis and benchmarking to ensure competitive pay practices
- Collaborate with HR and Finance to budget and forecast compensation expenses
- Manage relationships with compensation vendors and brokers to improve service delivery and cost-effectiveness
- Payroll Oversight:
- Oversee the US payroll function to ensure accurate processing of payroll
- Maintain compliance with federal, state, and local regulations regarding payroll and taxation
- Implement best practices for payroll processes, ensuring efficiency and accuracy
- Manage relationships with payroll vendors and brokers to improve service delivery and cost-effectiveness
- Benefits Administration:
- Manage benefit programs, including health, welfare, and retirement plans
- Evaluate existing benefits programs and recommend enhancements to improve employee satisfaction and retention
- Manage relationships with benefit vendors and brokers to increase service delivery and cost-effectiveness
- Equity administration:
- Manage our equity compensation plans. This includes the policies for granting, tracking, and reporting equity awards to employees and other partners
- Manage relationships with the Equity vendor to improve service delivery
- Regulatory Compliance:
- Stay current with all regulations related to compensation, benefits, and payroll
- Ensure compliance with legal requirements and reporting, including annual audits and filings
- Communication and Education:
- Develop and facilitate ongoing communication strategies to educate all employees on total rewards programs
- Provide guidance to HRBPs and managers on compensation and benefits matters
- Analytics and Reporting:
- Use data analytics to assess the effectiveness of compensation and benefits programs
- Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior leadership on compensation trends and program performance

Loyalty systems, vouchers, and other special offers have a proven track record at winning over new customers for businesses. However customers can be reluctant to sign up due to the sheer number of these schemes. Upside exists to unify these loyalty schemes with a single flexible reward app.
While retail reward platforms are nothing new, Upside functions more like a marketplace, linking participating businesses to potential customers. It also rewards customers with cash back on eligible purchases, a more flexible reward than is traditional in loyalty schemes. With over 50,000 businesses enrolled and 30 million app users, Upside has grown into a major player in this sector.
Having secured investments in a 2022 round of equity funding, Upside expanded into mobile payments, growing its value to over $1.5 billion. Upside is moving to scale its operations by hiring additional talent and forming new partnerships with brands and businesses.
