- The ideal candidate is an experienced product leader, who effortlessly collaborates with product, engineering, research, editorial and analytics
- 12+ years of product management experience
- Experience delivering new end-to-end product experiences in the media space
- Experience in people management, managing a team of 5+ people
- Being able to craft concise and customer-centric product requirement and product vision documents while creating a compelling narrative is essential
- Experience launching and developing products and features for a global audience
- Understanding of A/B testing methodologies and the ability to use data to inform product decisions
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills to effectively communicate and present to stakeholders at all levels of the business
- Demonstrate strong ownership to deliver exceptional customer experiences and customer empathy
- Experience developing consumer facing experiences across multiple platforms (e.g., web, mobile, newsletters)
- Experience working with and managing the needs of multiple stakeholders and business teams
- Experience driving clarity in ambiguous situations and drive forward progress
- Experience with data analysis and driving insights and making business decisions through data
What the job involves
- CNN is looking for a Sr Product Director, New Businesses
- The New Businesses team will be leading the creation of new, standalone products at CNN, and focused on the creation of separate, non-news experiences that can help enrich our users’ lives and drive the subscription business
- You will be an integral part of CNN’s New Businesses team, steering the delivery of our non-news and standalone products that will drive CNN’s subscription business
- This role is responsible for piloting our first wave of new products. Your goal: Bring the product MVPs to market in a timely fashion; then validate product market fit using data and qualitative feedback to assess. For the products that succeed, continue to iterate and improve to refine the fit. For those that don’t fit, we will either pivot or shut down
- In this role, you will manage a team of product managers, who will be assigned to the different initiatives. If you are successful, your team will grow rapidly
- You will own the strategy for delivery of these projects, managing resources across initiatives
- You will foster a deep collaborative culture and promote partnership with cross-functional leads and senior leadership to synthesize and translate strategic initiatives into best-in-class product experiences
- You understand the media landscape, and you are innovative, and committed to pushing the boundaries of CNN
- You will empower and mentor your product team; foster a cohesive, committed, passionate, productive, and positive environment; champion new ideas, and work towards the highest caliber of craft and a best-in-class experiences within a growing team

Warner Bros Discovery (WBD) is an entertainment company formed from the 2022 merger of Warner Bros and Discovery. It is a leader in the creation, production, distribution, licensing, and marketing of content, with Warner Bros alone boasting a huge library – more than 100,000 hours of programming – before the companies were joined. WBD’s portfolio includes Discovery Channel, Warner Bros. Entertainment, Discovery+, HBO Max, and franchises like “Batman” and “Harry Potter”.
Both of the company’s previous businesses have operated throughout the digitisation of the media space. David Zaslav, CEO of WBD, headed Discovery during its expansion into digital media, to make it a “content company” over a “cable company”. The recent focus for Warner Bros has been on next-gen distribution efforts, expanding the availability of its content across platforms and devices to reach the modern viewer. The new company has plans to migrate to one tech stack, which will require extensive retooling, as well as exploring cost-saving automation opportunities for its operations.
Since the merger, the new giant that is Warner Bros Discovery has had a shaky start, forcing the company to wind down operations and cut back on content, which included the very public scrapping of the “Batgirl” movie. However, it now seems the company may have been ahead of the curve, as a wider trend of cutbacks has been seen from peers in the space. This early move, combined with a hyper-focus on cash generation, seeks to establish WBD as an outperformer in an industry on the downturn.
