What the job involves
- As a Mobile Engineer on the Utilities team, you will help design and build mobile app-based products that entice and reward EV drivers who are customers of our utility partners, and simplify their charging experience by making low-cost and low-carbon charging automatic
- The front end used by our EV drivers is a React Native mobile app targeting iOS and Android - it can be customized by region or utility partner, or white-labelled entirely into a separate, dedicated app for the utility such as Charge Smart MA
- We use React to build interfaces for our utility partners, for them to manage their customers. You’ll be experienced working with JavaScript or TypeScript, and have familiarity with the React ecosystem, developing either web applications or mobile applications. Experience with native mobile code is desirable but not essential. You’ll be customer focused, and put great care into the quality of the user experience
- While we’re a remote company, this role will often interact with the Energy Utilities that make up our North America business. As such, we would expect you to be able to cover normal US East-Coast working hours
Our take
Properly managing electric vehicle charging is critical to a low carbon future. With a growing numbers of EV rolling out over the world, ev.energy is tackling the unique set of pain points that exists for EV users.
The company has created an easy-to-use app to support users with each EV charging session. The app optimises and schedules charging times relative to grid demand, helping EV owners avoid peak tariffs, save money, prevent over-congestion on the grid and use the greenest electricity possible.
Strategic moves, such as a 2022 partnership struck with Easee, combining ev.energy's software with Easee's domestic chargers, indicate the company's continuous work to optimise user experience. while maximising the use of renewable energy. A Hypervolt charging station partnership in 2025, and a California Energy Commission grant of $41 million in 2024 show that ev.energy will remain a major player in the green energy software market.
