Role
Who you are
- You have full-stack experience, with the ability to identify problems and opportunities on all layers of the coding stack + take initiative to solve them
- You have a proven track record of successful code deployment in industry (minimum of 6 months), and are well-versed in industry best practices
- You have industry experience working with React/React Native, HTML/CSS/Javascript/TypeScript, Python
- You have a full-stack portfolio you are proud to showcase: e.g. a deployed app, and personal or professional projects
- You are a top University Graduate with a degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electronics, and/or Data Science
- You are excited by the prospect of learning and utilising new languages, frameworks and tools to create real world solutions
- You are a problem solver who employs design thinking, is solution oriented and has a knack for good UI/UX, engineering principles, and attention to detail
- You enjoy a multi-faceted exposure to work-streams in the domain of IoT, sensor technology, networking, embedded systems, app development, firmware, software, SaaS/DaaS ansalytic
- You have excellent communication abilities whereby you can easily synthesise client requirements into well engineered solutions and vice versa where you can describe complex engineering concepts to non-technical stakeholders effectively
- You enjoy and have experience collaborating with a small diverse team, can excel under pressure and put yourself forward for new opportunities/challenges and can showcase why a dynamic start-up environment is the perfect fit
- You are an ecowarrior who is keen to make a real-world impact - tackling the impact of climate change with technical solutions resonates with you
- You have the right to work in the UK or a visa with at least 6 months remaining (we can sponsor a Tier 2 Skilled Worker visa post-probation)
- You are London-based and happy to commute to work in-person 3 or more days a week from our Victoria co-working space
Desirable
- 1-2 years of industry coding experience
- Experience using FastAPI
- Experience with containerised applications and SRE/CICD tools (Docker, Kubernetes, Travis, Github Actions)
- Experience with Node.js
- Experience with mobile app development (React Native, Expo experience is a plus)
- Experience with developing data science models for predictive analytics
- Experience with low level systems (including embedded firmware development) and PCB design
- Experience with industry-grade testing tools e.g. Cypress
- Experience with DevOps and/or Cybersecurity
- Experience with IoT networking protocols e.g. CoAp and MQTT
- Experience with 3rd party API integration
- Experience working in a tech-4-good company
- Experience working in a fast-paced start-up/scale-up
What the job involves
- You will develop efficient algorithms and APIs that enhance and optimise our device firmware and the IoT backend infrastructure that supports the cross stack interactions (app-device, device-backend, backend-dashboard)
- You will be working closely with fellow team members to plan, produce, test and deploy new full-stack features across our entire codebase (firmware, app, software, back-end and APIs)
- You will support the development of our product and back-end infrastructure as we scale across the UK and further afield (US & Germany)
- You will have the opportunity to manage and scale the development of our suite of tools and implement new features and functionality which allows clients to install, better visualise and manage their sensor fleets
- You will develop APIs, data models, visualisations, and analytics for flood warnings and predictive alerts - allowing clients to take a proactive approach to flood management
- You will help test, automate, and optimise our existing workflows
- You will balance speed and quality, with a focus on tangible results as you work across multiple tech stacks (often in parallel)
- You will work shoulder to shoulder with the CTO and engineering team to help us scale fast in a robust manner while contributing to the system level design and end-end architecture discussions

- Technical screening (remote) with Full-Stack Engineer (30 mins) week of 9th December
- Full technical assessment (remote) with CTO (60 mins) week of 16th December
- Final interviews (in person) with CTO/HR/CEO (full-stack tech assessment 60 mins, cultural fit 2x45 mins) w/c 23rd/30th December (& 6th January if required)
- First day mid-Jan to mid-February (dependent on notice period)

Our take
As the effects of climate change intensify, the frequency of flooding events is increasing. However, major infrastructures are currently grappling with a reactive approach, mainly due to the scale of their networks and the absence of adequate sensing technology and analytics. This approach proves to be expensive and environmentally harmful. Recognising these challenges, ManholeMetrics wants to address these issues and provide an effective solution to mitigate the impact of flooding.
ManholeMetrics provides cost-effective, long-lasting sensors that are designed to monitor wastewater levels. These sensors are accompanied by real-time and predictive alert systems, allowing infrastructure operators to take a proactive approach to flood management. Through this proactive approach, ManholeMetrics enables the creation of calibrated models and facilitates optimised data-driven decision-making for more effective flood prevention and response.
ManholeMetrics has received support from Yorkshire Water, Thames Water, and National Highways. This support not only serves as a testament to the credibility of ManholeMetrics' technology, but also propels the company closer to achieving its ambitious goal of ending flooding.
