Who you are
- If you move fast, care deeply about craft, and want your work to matter, this is the role for you
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience with full-stack ownership of production systems
- Deep TypeScript expertise, with strong React and Next.js experience building modern, responsive web applications
- Comfort owning deployments end-to-end — experience with platforms like Vercel and CI/CD pipelines like GitHub Actions
- Habitual, fluent use of AI tools (Claude, Cursor, etc.) as part of your daily workflow
- Experience building with LLMs — API integrations, agentic workflows, or frameworks/harnesses such as Eve or Strands — or a strong drive to get there quickly
- Solid fundamentals in system design, testing, debugging, and code review
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or equivalent practical experience
- Nice to Have (Not Required)
- React Native experience for our mobile surfaces
- Familiarity with Java — we have some legacy Java services you may occasionally touch, but no Java expertise is needed for this role
- Experience with AWS
What the job involves
- We're hiring two Senior Software Engineers to join our Member Experience engineering team — the team that builds the products our members use every day to find care, understand their benefits, submit claims, and manage their health plans
- This is a high-impact individual contributor role where you'll own the full product experience, from the APIs that power our platform to the interfaces our members interact with
- You'll work directly with product and design to ship features that make healthcare more accessible, and you'll use AI tools as a core part of how you build
- Build and ship full-stack features end-to-end across our member-facing web applications
- Work primarily in TypeScript — it's our language of choice across the stack
- Ship confidently through our GitHub Actions CI/CD pipelines and deploy web applications on Vercel, owning your changes from pull request to production
- Design scalable systems and make deliberate architectural tradeoffs between performance, maintainability, and speed to ship
- Build AI-powered member experiences — integrating LLM APIs and working with agent harnesses and frameworks (e.g., Eve, Strands) where they add real value
- Write clean, well-tested, production-grade code with a high bar for quality
- Partner with product, design, and stakeholders across the business to translate requirements into great software
- Contribute to engineering standards through code reviews, technical discussion, and better defaults
Our take
Sidecar Health’s insurtech platform allows users to tailor their own flexible healthcare plans based on their individual needs and budget. One of its main advantages outside of its flexibility is how the company doesn't use its own dedicated network of doctors, allowing the customer to see whomever they like while negating its own need to build nationwide networks.
Furthermore, it allows users to search and compare local health providers, and pay directly for care through its own payment card, often at a discount to what legacy insurance providers charge. Sidecar’s offering allows for better flexibility, more transparency and fewer financial burdens for unnecessary coverage areas.
The company has garnered plenty of praise and financial backing for its consumer-centric approach. Its 2024 funding raise positions Sidecar Health as a major disruptor in the market. That said, future growth will depend on how well it can expand its nationwide footprint, take on the legacy healthcare providers and work its way into employer and government-sponsored plans. 2026 expansions into the state of Texas show it is making progress on these fronts.
